I appreciate that as it goes for everything in life. However I'm looking for a gift for someone and not something for serious hard core kiting. Something for someone to use a handful of times a year. So does anyone know if its make of paper and string or will withstand some abuse. Many thanks.

Hi, was thinking of buying my brother in law a kite to get into the sport with. Whats the least I can get away with spending on him. Something to give him a buzz and learn the basic skills. Maybe even power a dirtsufer.

Hi I have a dirtsurfer that I'd like to use occasionally along a local beach with a kite. Am not looking to get air just a bit of speed now and then. What do you recommend?

I live at Par and to be honest its probably your best bet. At low tide if you happy to get a little wet its quite compacted. Just below the high water line on a retreating tide you will find a narrow 20foot or so hard area of sand that runs the lenght of the beach which will probably do you alright.

Yeah it all makes sense. Was quite happy with my progress I could get up on the board for a second or so after just a few times out but once I got to grips with what little I knew I realised I might not have the time to get to grips with the sport properly. It was knowin this which lead me to think I'd be better off with windsurfing as I find it hard finding the time. I had a lucky run at the beginning of last year when I managed to get out 4 or 5 times in a month but that soon tailed off again. Its easy to say make the time but its not so easy to do it. Thats the real problem. At the moment I'd be lucky to get out once or twice a month which I didn't think is enough to master things. Windsurfing i could pick up again and go.

aaah informal clubs are just the thing. Am not a big club person myself but informal sounds cool to me. Next time you are heading somewhere I'd like to come along if I have some spare time and thats ok? Finance department has put a temporary block on my "Toys" Budget until I start makin money again.... Now theres an incentive.

Caver, Yeah Par is ideal for the southerlyies and literally a 5 minute walk from home. I've windsurfed at Daymer and flown my kite once at Watergate. Am thinkin about the club thing as that might help. (think there's as much a worry about really gettin into it and the start of another spending spree on expensive toys...

I thought it a bit harsh but I learnt a while ago that you never know what goes on in peoples lives and I don't want to be the one to say something or do something that is the last straw for them. Guess not everyone feels that way.
