  1. Hi All, Igeighty, how often do you fly? I live not too far away from Croydon, it would be good to have a fly one day. I go to the Boronia Oval on Tormore Rd. If the winds are N to NE it is good there, also if it is from S to SE. I have a Soul and a Benson Deep Space. I can honestly say the Benson is much more to my liking, except it exceeds my capabilities by a mile, although, I hope to grow into it. I would like to try a Nirvana SE and you can try to Benson, but there is just not too many fliers around. The Benson is a beautifully made kite, and I am sure the Nirvana is as well. Kevin, will you be at the Adelaide Kite festival in 2016. I have been to the last 2 Rosebud Kite festivals, hoping to see you :-( Cheers and good flying all.
  2. Thanks Nigel! I can fly a REV. Once you launch it. Pin those elbows to your side and don't move them. Just pull the bottom right string a little bit (ie:- use your right hand middle and ring finger to pull gently on handle) this will make the REV turn right, and visa versa. Now I can fly the kite for a while to get some control and understanding of how it flies. After flying it like that for an hour. I can fly a REV. Still need practice. Looking forward to more nice wind and flying time. Cheers and thanks for the hands on advice.
  3. Hi Nigel, Thanks a lot. I live in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, at the foot of the dandenongs. I'm waiting for a nice day so I can go to Elwood park or Casey Fields near Cranbourne to get some good advice / help, if there is anyone else there. I'm sure hands on help would be the way to go to help elimiate the difficult the learnig curve at the start. I'm still convinced they are not hard to fly, but I've found learning on your own is pretty hard and risky for the kite! (I've never run at full pace with the wind to help alleviate the impact of a kite which is going to hit the ground! Yeah right!) Thanks all, it's appreciated.
  4. Hi Virginblue, I've just gotten back into kiting and have recently purchased the Flying Wings Soul from Jason and I can honestly say I'm loving it. I've also purchased the REV 1.5 SLE and I am trying to get any control over this thing. I'm sure once I have learned how to fly it, it will then be good fun, but probably not as challenging as doing the cool tricks that you can with a dual string freestyle kite. I personally think that if you already have a 4 line kite I would get a dual line freestyle kite, so you can enjoy both worlds. As with all kites, they require different types of inputs on the lines to behave how you want them too. For example I had been flying an old Leading Edge Sport Stunt Kite (wing span of approx 1.5m) for many many years before advancing to the Soul after I re-entered kite flying after a 10 year break. My brain was so well trained with the Sport Stunt kite that I didn't need to think to get it to scoot around the sky with precision, although flying the Soul for the first time, I remember thinking 'what's wrong with this kite' however after 20 minutes of flying my brain had retrained itself on the the different inputs required and from then on it has been an absolute joy to fly and learn tricks on. Jumping up and down like a little boy after completing my first (good and controlled) half axel in the middle of a footy field, is something that makes me like dual string kites. In my opinion, dual line kites provide more flying flexibility and require more effort (ie:- exercise) and 4 line kites are more graceful and peaceful flying. (This opinion is from the here and now, when I cannot fly my REV kite with any predicibility. Can't wait for the day that I can control it and this opinion may change) Good luck in choosing your next kite Virginblue. Cheers
  5. Hi All, I can concur with OldNick, REV's are hard to fly in the beginning. I'm very capable of flying 2 line kites and thought I would jump upto a REV for a bit of different flying. Without trying to upset or ridical you OldNick, but if you cannot launch, just wait until it's in the air, you'll really see how little controll you have..... Launching is not a problem and I have been trying the exercises from the DVD that comes with it. I can perform the first task (with some sort of consistancy) which is to fly straight up (forward) and then back down to the ground (in reverse). I understand the principles behind controlling the REV, but if I try to do anything other than the straight up and straight down movements, the kite moves around in the sky, but for the life of me, I am by no means controlling where is goes. I look forward to the day when I can controll where the REV goes Just need more (a lot more) practice in a nice wind. At the moment flying the REV is like However with more practice I will be And then I've watched numerous videos on how to fly the REV, and it looks ezypeezy. So saying this in tounge and cheek, but you bastards just like to laugh at us inexperience flyers trying to control a 4-line kite. (I laugh at myself trying to fly a REV, because I simply cannot control it) One day an update will come with myself trying to pass on advice and help other beginners learn to fly a REV. I'm looking forward to the day that I can chat and get real flying tips with another REV flyer at a park / beach. However I will continue to persist with my complete lack of skill and try to learn. I'm sure it will be good fun, once I can control it. Cheers All. Thanks for the comment of "very small wrist" movements, the REV's are very sensitive to line movements. I thought I was doing that, but will certainly put that into my brain while still learning. Also noted, "No big arm movements". I'll try those key points and see if I can at least appear to be somewhat in controll of the REV. BTW:- Yes, I did get a real REV
  6. Hi All, I'm new here. So hi everyone! I was just about to finalise a purchase of a Jest of Eve Talon kite only to find that the website is no longer active What a bugger, it would seem I missed out by only a week or 2. Does anyone know if you can still purchase them new in Australia. BTW:- A wind of change will not ship to Australia, and the colours are crappy. Thanks a lot and have a nice day. Cheers
