Tethered Flying / Man lifting
Osamabinkiting replied to Slipstream1599968661's topic in General Kiting
Me I never had a problem with being nosey and stopping to have a chat. I like helping those new to the sport. Of course you tell from a mile off the asses who probably wouldn't appreciate help. But don't judge books by covers, I was once asked by a scouse lad (tattos and all) who looked like he might smack you and pinch the kite but I told him what it was said he could have a go if he wanted and he was so minted he dashed off to get his girlfriend and they had a great laugh. My amigo Sturmovik tries it though and usually ends up telling Blo Karters to **** off, or old blokes throwing their dogs under his tyres -
Possible Incident on Criccieth Beach?
Osamabinkiting replied to Tyler Durden's topic in General Kiting
But kiting is not a safe sport, there have been a number of deaths and injuries in kitesurfing. And lets face it with all the new people getting in to this activity then maybe cautionary tales would make them think twice. Lets face it we don't need to talk about accidents there are enough loons out there already demonstrating to the general public that this sport is practiced by nutters. -
Doesn't anyone use brakes any more?

Ah so but you don't dispense with the leashes tho. As for getting in the way well maybe so but replace them with a cow tail (a la Ozone leashes on their handles) that way they don't get in the way. -

I look foward to your attempt at man lifting then. Let me know which hospital you're going to be in so we can send you a get well card. -

Ah in that case I would say the overtaker has to take all avoiding action only a dick would cut in on the downwindside of a buggier. But in the scenario you mention then the up wind buggier would generally raise his kite thus relieving pressure and obviating the need to have the kite ripped from his fingers. But even then with or without KKs the downwind overtaker would still end up with a kite in his face unless he was 30metres plus down range and the guy who lost his kite had kite killers. Anyhoo why do buggiers whine about kite killers don't hear boardies and surfies whining about chicken loops and leashes and quick releases. Or maybe they should go hardcore and do with out? -

If Andy Preston has changed his mind then shame on him. -
Yoo mean the beeaatch took your money too??!!! Listen dude this crack ho! Needs kickin' to the kerb you know wha' I mean. I told you didn't I? You have no money and she dumps you! Whatch it cos the way this story is going you'll probably find she gave you the clap too and comes back in 9 months demanding maintenance for the kid she claims is yours:( Save your money buy more kites, and get yourself a dog (cannine that is) Stop picking up dodgy women:confused:
-
Typical woman! maybe it's time you all got over yourselves. The world does not revolve around women. Why can't women get it in their heads that just like them men don't want to be **** on either. Why is it when a bloke raises these questions he's being a sad tosser who should get a life or get over himself, but if a woman raises these same questions it's because all men are tossers and should get a life or get over themselves? You can't win either way. Man; get yourself a kite then just like me you to can become a bitter and twisted old tosser. P.S. "maybe it was just too painful for her spending time apart from you... " hahahaha nope she probably wants to/is shagging someone else:D

Was at Shell Island around two weeks ago and the sand was hard good enough to board I'd say tho I use a buggy. Just remember check the site has space cos it was full early August. Stay well away from the families and 200-300 metres beyond the very obvious rock on the beach

No my young padiwan man lifting is definitely with the intention of getting big phat 20 metre+ air and risking your balls doing it. I know what you are talking of, thats just what happens when you fly that 13m Guerilla in 25mph + wind and you don't want to fly off. -

Cos women are basically emotional w*****s. They'll say this when they really mean you're boring/ugly/smell/have bad habits/have bad friends/don't have enough money blah blah blah! Either that she's shagging someone else which is always the case if they break up with you first. My advice don't chase after her find someone else and dump them you'll feel a whole lot better and women hate being dumped I guarantee she'll be stalking you for weeks:D

The problem is that if you use a kite to lift you off the ground and you have a failure in either the lines or harness or tether you'll hit the deck pretty hard. Previous attempts used Flexifoil Stacking kites like the Super 10, that way by having more than one kite if one fails you have something to fall back on. As Andy Preston's article mentions they needed at least 6 people to control things. A group held the tether and if the flyer got pulled up they would move forward and if the flyer dropped they would move back to keep tension in the system. Tying off to a static point i.e. tree, concrete bollard, car etc. means as soon as you loose lift in the kite you are going to drop likewise I you loose control and the kite luffs or fly's out of the window you going to drop. Also: Sorry Spook but it'll take a sentence to explain man lifting but the safety concerns have to be discussed in case anyone decided to give a try cos it sounded like a laugh. Afterall we don't want anyone to get injured or killed do we? -

Totally agree. The arguement on Kite Killers has been thrashed out before but at the end of the day they are there not just for the safety of just you and your kite but other people. Me I've been lucky in that I never had an accident but I've seen people who have, and a lot of cases where they get the kite and board/buggy and have no clue about flying the kite but still attempt to leap in to a buggy on a board. I have also seen some seriously scared people when they realised what could happen with kites in inexperienced hands. Kite killers have their uses so if you have them use them. Oh and Newbies please get a ground stake I am sick of giving mine away to people who buy kites and then sit there scratching their heads trying to figure out how they'll put the kite away in a force 5-6 whilst hanging on to the handles. So play safe you know it makes sense. -

Andy Preston did an article on this subject in Powerkite mag. and there are tales of a guy busting all his ribs doing this when his waist harness slipped up to his armpits then the kite put the squeeze on him. Another guy in the States bust his pelvis doing this too. "Attempting this trick is about as dangerous as it gets. Indeed there have been at least three deaths, and there will be more if people don't get a grip what is happening..." (Andy Preston Quote Powerkite mag Issue 2 2003). Basically its too risky -

Also highly dangerous and should be actively discouraged. Probably it's had a surge of people buying kites cos it looks raaaad man. Then they get bored and wandered off to something else. It's like most sports you get the wanabees i.e. the complete set of golf clubs in a cupboard under the stairs used twice etc. Anyhoo it leaves more beach for me. What I have noticed is up to two years ago you would get stopped by at least half a dozen people asking how you do that, is it a land yacht is it expensive etc. but these days hardly anyone asks. Kiting must have become commonplace in the public psyche.

Appendicitis of all things whilst recuperating bought a Stacker 6 then a 2.5 Bullet and haven't looked back. It's the combination of the simple beauty of a kite in flight with all the crazy stuff going on down on the ground. It's whole lotta fun rolled into one! It's also a great way to meet dogs too

Sallam Alykum oh venerable Sand Yeti :D

Hi Sand Yeti, Love your posts the thought of buggying the desert sand near curdles my brain. You lucky bugger. Osamabinkiting and the avatar? Well Mr. Osama takes himself far too seriously in my book if he spent more time kiting maybe he wouldn't want to make war. So Osamabinkiting says Fly Kites don't kill the none believers. Maybe we could have a world leaders kite jamboree. Osama could fly? Perhaaps a 13m Guerilla Ehud Olmert? Oh I don't know but something big with guns and missiles like a F16 George Dubyah Bush he could fly? Something in the Symphony range What about dear old Tone? A small plastic Winnie the Pooh Kite We could have kites for everyone Unfortunately we could never meet in a pub or if we did I'd have to shoot you all as infidel dogs and send the video to Al Jaazera, Sallam...

Morning Sturmovik! Saw the thread you mention got to admit it was pretty well Red Top Tabloid stuff and some borderline stuff in there. You wouldn't have liked it much. Shouldn't post politics or religion on kiting websites cause too much trouble so that's why it was probably deleted. Looks like there were some flame warriors at work. Any way I went out buggying yesterday windy but gusty shame you couldn't have been there too. Lets get on with the kiting talk. See ya round:D
