  1. also Photobucket.com regestration also req'd
  2. enough wind for the kite to feel nice an tight above your head..then you can wang it from left to right, right to left thru the zenith for mucho altitude. For me this would be around 15-20mph (im jus over 90Kg)
  3. doh..too slow..lol
  4. either..if flying hooked in 100% of the time, you can clip it to the chicken loop, as this stays in your spreader bar if you hit the safety. If your flying unhooked, theres a little ring on the 'donkey dick' thingy to clip too..or you can clip it too the spreader, or harness..where ever is comfyest for ya
  5. yea wicked..i use it on my 4.9 & 6.5 Blades, turns the 4.9 really well..the trim strap for the brakes makes landing & staking out a doddle too
  6. thats a good idea.. Similar to Shimano's hollowtech cranks..opens up a whole new avenue for truck design
  7. http://kitesurfingschool.org/kiteboarding.htm not a bad guide to get the theory down..there are a few out there. As for kites, the phantom is a cracker yea..but for learning to board with..hmmm..i dunno. The trouble is with being 'hooked' into the harness all the time. This will make for a very steep learning curve..which will involve you gettin dragged off your board a lot..lol Get a cheap 2nd hand bar for for your bullet to learn the basics on the board, in the meantime practice static flying with your Phantom 'hooked' in to get a feel for the kite..
  8. lol..it aint hype tho is it..they are cracking, affordable kites. Dont think theres much you could put up against a 2nd hand BII 4.9 @ £150. For recreational, boarding & buggying..iconic kite to get you goin from 10-25mph.
  9. when i first started scudding i was pondering bigger & better scuds too..was gonna try a baking tray..lol..sounds daft i know, but its a piece of teflon you can stand on an go storming off down the beach/field with, can also get off it Evolutions of the idea, an old skateboard with no trucks etc, the glossy underside should provide enough 'slip' - or you could combine the 2 and attach the tray to the board. must say i never got round to trying any of this..bought an airdeck instead..lol
  10. thing with Blades is you either love or hate them. Personally i love my BII, i like the raw power it has compared to the 'tamer 3 & 4's. Id deffo go for a BII 4.9 i think every kiter should have owned one at some point
  11. nah..didnt get the chance with the causeway being so early..if id have caught you on the Fri, i would have probably sacked the car job an come down. Sounds like a good job i didnt anyways..would of probably ended up trying to fly my 6.5 and getting spanked..lol
  12. nah..it is & does feel better once you get used to being pulled from there & being hooked in all the time. Seems a scary prospect initially, but like i mentioned if you get going un-hooked then hook in for a cruising run when your steady, you get a good feel for it. One thing i will suggest is that your 100% confident using the saftey with the bar..if things go t!ts up when your hooked in & you get flustered, or confused it could be potentially very messy. I speak from experience there..first time i bailed hooked in i just let go of the bar an was like..'oh bugger im still moving' ..lol..i fly on the beach so it wasnt really a problem, just an eye opener.
  13. I disagree with that, id say its easier. When first learning the board with handles, if you get a bit wobbly you tend to flail your arms round like an air traffic controller @ an acid house party. This obviously transmits to the kite & can cause havoc. With the bar, your holding onto a single object with both hands, so there is no real flailing of limbs & handles..you tend to move the bar in an arc from your waist upwards & quickly learn to use the bar for stabilty. again, everyone learns in different ways & at different rates..this is just my opinion
  14. dont underestimate the 4.9..in decent winds say 15-20mph it'll take you huuuge. I can get higher with my BII 4.9 than my BIV 6.5, its so much more expolsive than the 4's..dunno about the 3's. Might overlap you other kites slightly, but you'll get your £££ worth out of it cos it'll become you fave
  15. the value of opinions.. ..personally id say start off with the bar. I did, finding it much easier to control the kite (being a little slower & a little less responsive on the bar) and ride the board at the same time. I also wore a harness from early on, but only hooked in when i was cruising on a nice smooth run..unhooking to stop, start make turns etc. Now the confidence has grown i fly hooked in 90% of the time, makes for a nicer session too..you can play for longer without your arms falling off. Id say ive been boarding around 3-4 months now, and learnt pretty much the same way you are..from research, watchin videos & luckily watchin a couple of decent riders @ my local beach. best bet is just to get out there an see what works for you..take it easy, jus start off steady & have fun.
  16. ahhhh.. ..thought you lived on the island for some reason. must be the holyhead-holywell dslexyia (lol) kickin in. was on west shore last night..me & a lone buggier, blowing smack on-shore..slightly overpowered on my 6.5..but then it dropped a little an it was sweeeeet. sound guy 'Chris' in the buggy..he was blasting around on a 2.5 Bullet..let me have a shot -burst my buggy cherry- ..Enjoyed it tho, although the bug was a bit too short..got a feeling for it
  17. yo dude, PM us your fone number.. i got one of the lads' cars to sort out in the mornin..shouldnt be too much of a blag tho..could be down by early aft' i'll give you a txt for 'sit-rep' or sommat cheers, Nik.

    Trampa

I think with kiting (an this is jus what ive found from my experiences), especially a beginner like me, its easy to think you will progress better if you have the same kit as the guy busting all the moves at your local spot. I very nearly fell into this trap, but after some good advice, im gonna stick with my blades until ive got all the basics dialled (just pulled off my first powerslide transitions ) The case of snide remarks to people who are in a position & can afford to change their kit regularly is jus down to jealousy i rekon
  19. Wouldnt the Nova be even further for you to travel Si..?? Or do you work over that way..?? Never made it down last night, had a few bits to do...they would of been scrapped mind if it had been blowin..lol..was pretty still in town, dunno what it was like on the beach..??
  20. might have been talkin 'sh-eye-zer' there..was going off our local tides (N.Wales coast). Jus checked Barmouth; Sat - HT@ 10.38 LT@ 17.40 Sun - HT@ 11.11 LT@ 18.08 So..next query..you rekon all this rain is gonna appear over the weekend..lol
  21. will get you going in a buggy yea for deffo. To hazard a guess at the sweet spot id say 15-20mph in a nice clean wind. lines sounds spot on too..
  22. water will make them a bit heavier, but shouldnt weaken them. If its salt water..best to wash em off with fresh water then dry them. different knots on the handles are used for tuning the kite, ie altering one set (either power or brakes) in relation to the others. Blades are designed to be flown on equal length lines..so try them both on the furthest most knots to start with. If when flying, you find the brake lines are a bit too tight, you can move the powerlines one knot closer to the handles effectively shortening them and lengthening the brakes. visa versa if the brakes are too slack
  23. maybe up for it.. theres a surfing session on the cards @ Abersoch..but if conditions favour wind, not waves..could be a go'er hows it work with the tides etc..?? As were on for mid aft' high tides over weekend.
  24. new zealand..lol..thats a blag. Only way to know for sure is to goto the PO as suggested & ask them over the counter. How much did you sell it for out of interest..??
  25. or you could use the 'donkey dick' supplied with the bar to secure the chicken loop to the spreader bar. Granted if your not comfortable being hooked in all the time its not the best solution, but it is pretty easy to release when you want to unhook..??
