a good make to look at is haro. little more expansive than the mongoose but real nice bikes and will last a long time. the bars can be a little long for flat land stuff but they are easy to cut down if wanted. bikes like hoffmans are good, but you pay for the name aswell. just depends what he wants it for, how long he wants it to last
