  1. Anyone seen the new sign on the Bulmershe fields? Does it have any implications for kiting? I was driving past so didn't read it properly, tho I did see that "golf practice" was explicitly forbidden. More anon...
  2. I was at Harlech for the weekend. A 3.5 bullet in the winds on Sunday would have hurt you. No question about it. 30Mph sounds about right, tho I have no scientific verification. I didn't bother with kites and went up tut mountains instead. The winds on Saturday were awesome for boarding tho esp as the afternoon wore on.
  3. Look at http://www.kiteflix.com/movies/evolution.wmv for some skate tricks on water.
  4. \begin{hijack2} Yr not the first he he. And it's HVS too. And Cenotaph is E1... tho high up in the grade. Everything in the pass is hard IMHO. It bloody scares me. But then I am a bit of a gritophile. Hmmmm... what to do on the bank holiday weekend? Kite or climb? Car won't take both sets of kit. :-( \end{hijack2}
  5. PMSL! he he To be honest, my jumps are mostly unintentional, so the last thing I think is "how high am I?". It is usually something like the name of a well known kite... "F-Arc". With emphasis on a long "aaaaarrrrrrrrrrr" in the middle.
  6. FFS.... arrrgh... hate the bloody interweb. I googled for "parachute 3 ring circus". Clicked on the first link... no pictures... saw... "Three Ring Circus - Price: £49.50" on the third link and clicked... didn't look at the title of the page. I'm eating my dinner as well... Cheers for the heads up tho... I've made several pin and loop systems and all have worked, but I am in search of the ultimate.
  7. Has anyone experimented with making their own quick release systems. I have experimented with Pin and Loop systems. Very cheap to make, but can be hard to release under extreme load. Wichard style systems. They seem very expensive, but that is probably a reflection on the fact that I wouldn't fancy making one without casting equipment. Any others? Anyone tried a velcro based system? Does such a thing exist already? I imagine with careful design it could be quite effective. Just collecting ideas for now. More anon... Jon

    Harnesses

    Cheers MonkeyV. Was worried about using the belay loop but you've eased my mind on that score. What do you use for safety? What quick release? More anon...

    Harnesses

    Excuse me being a wee bit slow here... but... what is a wichard? No sailing background you see... Is a climbing harness a big no no for boarding? Most climbing harnesses pull the leg loops up as tension is put in the attachment. I can see this being a pig if standing on a board! Legs could get whipped from under you. I have lots of climbing harnesses lying about and don't fancy just clipping to the harness with a krab as it would be an arse to undo esp if needed in a hurry! What do others do? I don't fly depowerables so on a fixed strop with minimal safety systems! Interested because was thinking of getting a new kite harness because gf likes to use my current one and I find some of my climbing harnesses uber comfy. More anon...
  10. Skate or BMX helmets are made for multiple impacts. It would get too expensive otherwise. As a result tho they are heavier, bulkier and have little or no ventilation. And you can forget about any aerodynamics. Tho I find they can be a good wind meter. If I can't hear my own voice over the wistling in my helmet then it is too windy. I landed more tricks on my head on halfpipes than I landed on my feet coz I was crap AND fearless when I was 'ikkle and my helmet was fine. Shame I lost it. Wish I knew about kites in those days! :-)
  11. Awesome board... tho.... Somin's gotta be seriously wrong with the bearings to get it to stand up next to that half pipe like that without something propping up the bearings ( I can't see anything ) or it being hooked up. Even my crappy old Sol 16 wont do that and it's bearings are super stiff when cold because of the viscous tractor grease I used!
  12. Cool vid and all that jazz... Q: Is Dan's board really short? His bindings look really close together.
  13. Was in Devon. Silly me for soloing. I am a peakophile so wasn't expecting loose rock! Oops.
  14. Interesting... Just applied for a job in Cambridge! Will certainly not be throwing away my rack. Just need to get my balls of steel back! If anything I should be even braver. After all, I now know it is possible to fall 15 metres and bounce without breaking anything. Peaks trip planned as soon as my masters thesis is in. :-) Will give you a shout if I end up in Cambridge. More anon... Jon

    Gusts!

    I'm also pretty light and have always thought that if I can't walk backwards at all with the kite above me then I am overpowered and time to put up a smaller kite.
