This is a 2 minute exposure at ISO 400 - not too noisy but you can see the movement in the stars.  You can also see some 'lumps' in the aurora - these come and go over a matter of minutes.  Sometimes it was brighter off to the right, sometimes to the left etc...

Wow! I never thought they came that far north down there. I have never seen these lights and I'm 50 degrees north lat. I know they sometimes get them in the far north of Scotland but never down here in London. The equivalent would be the northern lights seen as far south a Madrid in Spain!!

It's a pretty rare thing here.  I've seen them here three times since 1995 when we moved here.  I wouldn't have been able to see them from town.  I would assume they would occur far more often at 50 degrees north but your light pollution may be a factor there too.
