Southern-Aurora.jpg

This is a 5 and a half minute exposure at ISO 400 so you can plainly see the movement in the stars.  I haven't seen this for five or six years now.  And then I'd have to go back another 5 or 6 to the first time I saw the aurora.  The first time was really good with colors being visible and tall 'curtains' forming and melting away.  Of course, no fancy digital cameras back then and I wouldn't have known how to capture them with my film camera.  To the eye, this was just a low white 'fog', you'd struggle to see this in any sort of town.  Keep an eye out over the next few nights as there's a large-ish sunspot pointing roughly towards the earth which I believe is what's causing the aurora.

Where were these taken from John?

Just outside my bedroom window, Norm.   Looking south across Lake Burrumbeet.  The car headlights are on the Western Highway.
