KaoS Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 This winter/spring, strong to very strong winds seem to be the new "normal". What is everyone flying in these trying conditions? I'm okay with my Vented Soul up to about 18 mph, then it's pack away time. My fall back is a Vented Rev on 100 ft lines. Kevin Willunga S.A. Quote
Jason Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Something small and fast but usually not freestyle. The 2.5 vented SF handles a bit more than the SF but not much. You obviously get all your FW kites from over seas?? Jas Quote
KaoS Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 You obviously get all your FW kites from over seas?? Jas I met Albert a couple of times last year on my travels, got a standard straight off him. Picked up the vent and UL near new from a friend in the UK who didn't like them - lucky me!!! Jason Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Well I guess we just need to convince somebody to add a few extra vents to their vented Soul and see how it goes. Any takers??? Quote
steve_hobart Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 For me, my re framed NFX seems to handle the higher winds fine and stay quite trickable...albeit a bit fast.. It's replaced my Deepspace as the "small" kite in my bag this year... Any higher winds than that and the buggy and the Flow come out! cheers steve Quote
Jason Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 I have a spare Level One Jump lying around somewhere. It has a good top end standard, might vent it and see what it produces. Quote
DaveA Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 There's not a two line kite on the planet that will handle the winds we've had down here the last few months My vented Rev has seen so much air time lately that im afraid im going to wear it out ! Ive got a Talon that ive had for about 3 months that has only been flown once, a KaoS Maelstrom that is still to see the light of day, plus a KaoS Temptation that has only been flown once too !! Im afraid to look at my "older" kites in case they have turned to parchment by now. As much as i like my vented Silver Fox, it really only has an incremental higher wind range than the standard, the vented Soul is much better "high wind" kite IMHO Howling gale = the new normal Quote
nigel Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I'm with Steve_Hobart, high winds = buggy time. Quote
Two Hands Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 The Qpro VV with all vents off has had a bit of a run out there, but seriously, this wind is just plain madness doesn't it realize I have an addiction, and that that addiction must be satisfied??? I've just the BOM to complain... And get this for bureaucracy, they say it's not their fault I dissagreed. So I gave these guys a call So I'm thinking the wind will be back to normal real soon TH Quote
mad mick 199 Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 if u r looking for stunt/freestyle for higher wind the prism quantum pro comes in a vented as well if u look on there site they list the wind range they can fly in Quote
KaoS Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 The Quantum Pro V V didn't stay in my bag for very long. Pulls quite hard, and with all the vents out it behaves a lot different to when you leave some of the vents in. Not my idea of a good vented kite, it got sold on as soon as I found a willing buyer. The reason I like the Soul Vented so much is the fact that it behaves just like the standard, but does it with minimal pull in strong winds. Kevin Willunga, S.A. Quote

Kevin Willunga, S.A. i only have the non vented quantum pro and have seen the vented on prism site was thinkingof getting 1 for higher wind as most smaller kites r harder to trick with high wind and just dont fly that nice i have tryed a few kites and didnt like much at all maby i expect to much to get something that will fly like the zephyer or qoantum pro in higher wind but u have saved me some $ cause i was about to get a vented qp Quote
KaoS Posted September 27, 2009 Author Report Posted September 27, 2009 i expect to much to get something that will fly like the zephyer or qoantum pro in higher wind but u have saved me some $ cause i was about to get a vented qp The V V definitely doesn't trick like a Zephyr or QPro standard in the higher winds. The V V is a good precision kite for higher winds, as it pulls firmly and tracks really well, but the V V turns increasingly quicker as the wind picks up. Team Cutting Edge used QPros to great effect in winning 2 team World Championships. But when the wind picked up, they did a lot of other stuff to their V V s (bridle adjustments, extra wind brakes, etc.) If your flying style isn't trick based, you may enjoy the V V. I'd describe it as a sibling of the standard rather than a twin, and I'd say it was a friend of the Zephyr, but not closely related Kevin Willunga S.A. Quote
