the aspect ratio of a kite has very little to do with how lifty it is you could make a very low aspect ratio kite just as lifty as a high aspect ratio. it all comes down to the aerofoil section of the kite most of the shapes of the modern kites are done to make them look pritty in the sky i could quiet easyly design a kite that would perform as well as alot of the production kites but just be a rectangle.

any way back to the main topic there is quite a bit of difference between the arc kites and you can see them progress alot for the origonal arcs through to the synergys, one of the main differences that can be seen on the outside of the kites is how the top skin now doesnt billow as nearly as much as some of the older models this in itself helps with the airflow over the kite making it perform alot better. also with the newer kites you have alot more imput on how you want the kite to fly and feel. i have a synergy and have set it up to how i like to fly but to some one else it may not be how they want it. it took me a few sessions to get it right and this may put some people off. one of my mates had a go with it and said it was like flying a completely different kite to the one he had flown a few weeks back. i think the main thing is to have a go with the kite before you buy it and if they let you muck about with all the settings to see what you can do with it.

yeah, just got to find someone near me with the kite for me to try out. Upholland isnt really a major kiting place (apart from ashurst beacon where there are usually 2 other people flying when i am up there :))

don't buy a peter lynn they are boring and dull and slow though the air and just no fun get a proper non arced kite. peter lynn aren't fun and the only advantage is lots of lift but that gets boring after 10 mins or so of constant jumping

lol, tsp cant make his arc work properly... :D

actual i don't have one i just browed a mates for a while and i can own most of the people at my club with my foil (at speed any way but about half of them beat me at tricks and the other half don't do tricks) any way its a matter of taste but i don't think they are that good.

they are good kites just no fun because they are to easy to fly.

i want to see an arc with the ground handling of a foil!

i like my 10m venom but i have very little time available for kiting.... grrr.

spending time trying to nigel no mates launch it in a paddock with very little to weigh down the tip is annoying., it only takes one or two bow ties and resets to use up most of my alloted time.

the frenzy is sooo much easier to unfurl and fly..,.,..,.,.

ps tsp 10m venom is way way faster than my 10m frenzy.

Synergys ground handling is very good, not as easy as a foil but they are harder to crash so it kind of makes up for it, once you've mastered the technique it all comes good.

People on here do seem to be talking about older peterlynn kites the Venom was from 2005 before bows had even hit the market and they expect there preformance to be comparable to the lastest 08 gear?

Incidently has anyone heard anything about 2009 kites from peterlynn?

Get another frenzy then if you can fly open cell:rolleyes: Also look at the HQ neo when it comes out, foil handling but quite "arcy" behaviour in the air

Whoever said arcs are slow and boring obviously hasn't been anywhere near a 10m scorpion. It's so fast and every time I jump it makes me giggle there's so much pop.

I like the idea of those Neo's, wouldn't mind a play on one of them.

I flew the 14 Neo, its got plently of float + grunt and the 8. I can see where people are coming from when they say its like an Arc but they are still really very different. Try before you buy thinking its like an Arc or you might get a shock.

I just started flying a 16m scorpion after being madly in love with a 15m phantom for 14 months and it is now my main kite, load more float and pop and quite quick for a 16m, quicker than the 15m phantom but not too quick. :D

With the 16m Scorp it took a while to sort the launching and took hours to get it setup to fly right but it really does the job well now. :D

just my tuppence!

actually i was comparing the ground handling of my 05 venom to my 05 frenzy. so i think a fair comaprison. i don't have too much trouble on the beach where theres lots of sand. just on the paddocks where i have to walk a long distance and am not prepaired to take kg's of sand bags.

i'll take your advise that the synergy is better..... one day maybe i'll lay my hands on one.

i've heard that theres a buggy race kite coming out and a depower foil in the design stage from peterlynn.

I fly on grass and my mountain board is used to weigh the kites down, put the wheels on the upwind/folded tip horizontally - both wheels just fiton the VII 10. Launch and the kite slides underneath the board. Run back to your board and job done!

Use 1 or 2 1 litre bottle of water, or a 2 litre milk carton filled with water. I used to use this method but now use my landboard by placing 2 wheels on the Leadinig edge near the wing tip at 45 degrees so when launching the board rolls clear. Note: while inflating place the board with all 4 wheels across the wing tip near the spar. Only time I now use bottles is when its blowing to much for the board to hold it in place.

ahhh. yesterday at the beach the venom launched first up and i had a great session. wind was all over the place i was charging down the beach with the kite flapping round like a jellyfish on heat. but still no nasty business. i have to give the venom its dues it is a wonderful gust munching beast. wind was from 9 to 25knots.

its those kind of sessions i really appreciate the kites ability.

i was getting some nice air too.. nothing too massive but nice. i really enjoyed one air where i cruised up into the air. only a couple of feet of the ground and just trolled along parrallel to ground for ages. nice
