skye Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 anyone else thinking that they might as well dump their old bbc (bpka) insurance and join SWATK or bksa as it might be a bit more expensive but these folks seem to really do something in supporting our sport? controversial maybe, bitter about no Wroughton OR WALLOP maybe.... but im feeling like it would make much more sense when my insurance is up next month.... beardyjim Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 I must admit that mine runs out soon and as its not 'required' for wallop I'm thinking twice! (I have other club insurance anyhow..) Quote
spooky Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Does BPKA do anything to promote or push landing kiting??? Still land bans on the majority of kite surf only beaches, most of which in resonable distance of us both Controversial, but then again their memebers did vote against "adopting" us True may be worth thinking about changing, but what are the added benifits of others??? Jon Quote
noserider Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 what does the BKSA do to support the Land based activities? Quote

windy Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 I joined the BPKA to get insurance. Wallop was an added bonus. Seems like some people joined the other way round. Quote
windy Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Does BPKA do anything to promote or push landing kiting??? Jon Yes they do. They just don't shout about it. Quote
martin Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 I joined BPKA just to go to Wallop, i had £2Million cover on my home insurance which was enough for me. I've just renewed mine as well:( Quote
beardyjim Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Seems like some people joined the other way round. I joined in the first place to just have insurance then I joined a club and have club insurance so now the added bonus of staying with bpka is diminished for me. The site I would like to fly at I can't so them mandating that I have insurance doesn't help either Quote
Bertie Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 i was already considering joining BKSA, but now i see no reason not to Quote
windy Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 i was already considering joining BKSA, but now i see no reason not to Erm... how about more expensive for less cover (i think) Quote
Dan Masochist Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 BKSA specialise in kitesurfing so prob best to go with them if you kitesurf, it is quite expensive though, Go with BPKA if land based kiting. Quote
Bertie Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 i was already considering joining BKSA, but now i see no reason not to Erm... how about more expensive for less cover (i think) more expensive, yes. still got £5,000,000 3rd party cover and you get personal accident cover (i think you still do), and cant enter any BKSA events with BPKA insurance Quote
Uncle Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 This sounds like a stuipd thread to m, so why you might ask am i posting??? My line of 'thought' is much the same as windy. I joined the (then BBC) because the thought of having some insurance, once id had a few jolly good out of control flying sessions, sounded like agood idea. I looked around and at that time the BPKA (BBC) were the only ones i could find. they had a real basic web site but what they said made sense. Since i joined, i think over 6 years ago, they have helped with the polices for our club (any RPK memebers dont start moaing LOL), helped me find a good insurance for instrucing and of course helped kiters around the country overturn bans and restrictions. they dont shout from the hill tops about whatthey do of the kiting world, butthen what has any other insurance provider done?? i certainly dont know. All i know is that if my local council decided to suddenly ban kiting my local spot, the guys at the BPKA will be there to help try and sort out any problems. Quote
Kiteboyza Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Lets start a sensible debate here, this is purely my opinion Land based traction would never join the BKSA water boys. There will always be a divide and it won’t be long before the squabbles start about money. Land based kiters joining fees used for water events etc. You would have to get something in writing to state that equal proportion of cash to be spent and land based compo’s/festival. We have just had this discussion with the FED, who us class 8, basically fund and yet loads of cash used on landyachting and not on class 8 regattas/racing. Hence the reason we left them behind. Its good to see that most festivals and rawce events allow all vaid insurance. It seems the PKA have missed out here and only allow FED insurance, which is a pitty. Supercup on the other hand allow all/most insurance and this will encourage more to the racing side. my 2 pence worth for the day:p Quote

RossRobObey Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Meh, I joined the BPKA for the last few years because I didn't fancy a having a lawsuit filed against me, and have the risk of a hefty sum of money, if I was to hit some whilst flying. People say it won't happen to me etc, but who the hell knows? For the sake of £15 a year, it really isn't worth the risk. As Windy says, Wallop is a bonus, albeit a fcking awesome one! Quote
avspider Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 SO what are my options, we fly locally at 3-4 different sites, couple of times a yr at westward ho, and must cover me for the supercup racing. Which insurance is best? Quote

I've just renewed mine as well:( To my knowlage that is not sufficient anyway?? All events or rquirments for us on bublic land seems to be £5 million :9 Plus some land owners etc require/request insurance from certain policies/organisations as it is a know standard?? But know what you mean Jon Quote

Nice as a freebie, but if you were seriously concerned about needing that type of cover then best to get a deadicated/specific policey? Jon Quote
Bertie Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 im pretty sure the BKSA personal cover will be ****, but like you say, its a freebie anyway, im 15, i dont get injuries Quote
