grogamanda Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 guys, A mate of mine is lending me his catamaran up in airlie beach for a week. I was wodnering if anyone could note a few good beaches to moor at for kitesurfing. Also interested in how to set up and launch directly off a boat......Saves bothering with mooring and thw wife can follow me downwind on boat!!! Cheers in advance Grog Quote
JKS Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Hey Grog .. sounds like yer up for a tough week I have no Idea about 'doing' this, but a quick Google search yields heaps of results. Here's a couple which may help ...... http://www.kiteboardingmag.com/article/Advanced/The-Perfect-Boat-Launch http://www.ikiteboarding.com/kiteboarding/articles/review-turbolauncher.aspx# this ones gold http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2339225&highlight= Hope that helps Marty Quote
CRAKAS_Jenkins Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 I'm stuck on Hamilton for a couple of weeks so I just went for a quick spin over to Whitehaven Beach today and from what I have seen, that would be the choice spot. There are little beaches here and there, but most are sheltered from the prevaling winds. Cheers, Barrie Quote
grogamanda Posted June 7, 2009 Author Report Posted June 7, 2009 the other thought on my mind is to do mid water launching straight off theboat! Dont have to worry about the beach then...... Gotta be done! Wife can follow me downwind on the boat. R:D Quote
budha Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 someone take me kiting i get there monday/tuesday why are you stuck there crakas Quote
CRAKAS_Jenkins Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Budha, I'm stuck working on Hamilton Island for two weeks...working all day, every day. Plus there is no where to kite on the island with a southerly blowing...because of the damn airport..It would be ok for pole dances, but not for us tea baggers.. The wind has been blowin from the south for two days now, all I can see is whitecaps from my office...but all I can do is sit hear and watch it... Where abouts are you heading Budha? Cheers, Barrie Quote

poodel360 Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 hey iim in airlie and have all the info you need !!! give me a call 0406274318 i'm working from 2pm to 10;30 pm so call me be for ore after i like to go to hayman island it is the best at low tide and in s sw winds Hayman island is the fast and easy to get to. Also interested in how to set up and launch directly off a boat......Saves bothering with mooring and thw wife can follow me downwind on boat!!! this sounds easy but it can get fing hard to do NOTE i have dune it be for. hayman island has mooring lines for you and you will need to use it (call me i will explane ) 1. setting up the kite: first get your kite blown up on the boat NOTE down wind 2.setting up lines : roll all your lines off the bar and roll each one up individually and conect each line to the kite NOTE dubbel check the lines !!! if you dont do this right you will have a bad day!!!! 3. geting the kite and you flying: first roll up your lines back on to the bar NOTE you want to have the safty line reddy to go as you will be in the see when you roll the lines of your bar. when your set up and reddy to go get in to the see and let the kite go down wind while you are easing your lines of the bar NOTE if your kite is an inflato you would want it to be facing downso that when your line are off the bar the kite will not fly when your not ready NOTE DO NOT HOLD ON TO THE BOAT!!! regards dale Quote
