kiteingcolin Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 well the "large" 666 135 08 got a propper test to day, 25 mph rising to well over 30 mph, well powered up on 9 mtr kites, (put up my 12 but the gusts were very strong and scary) water state was sea chop and later on low tide left silky flat half mile runs with 2ft clean ramps, we were in heaven! the new 666 is faster than the outgoing 07 model, wayne was following on the speed runs and confirmed this, so stiffer means faster!! we guessed this, but the fear of a 135 in that wind overpowering my legs and skipping out was not a founded, the new 666 gripped like velcro, no matter what strength gust came through, and we had some scary ones, out in the deeper water the board when let loose and free for speed was not scary, it never threatened to dip its nose, this years nose width is way wider than last years, the fact that this new board spins and slides so easily on the surface is a mystery to me, it is very loose on the surface as soon as you push the back out, making quick direction changes a scream, so much fun! loading up for boosting feels no different than the 07 board, being a stiffer board i thought it would but i could not feel it, its still superb, landing fast jumps were easy and after a good hard session with the power loaded up good and strong i was not limping back to the car, that for me is a bonus as other wider boards have played havoc with my old broken screwed up tib and fib fracture so yeharrrrrrrr, to the new 08 666!! thanks nobile think i will need to buy the smaller 132 or 128, just to find out what what its like anyone want a used 07 132 666 for £250 ? edit!!!! 132 666 board now sold, god that was flippin quick, 08 666 132 now in the xmas stocking Quote
L3NNY Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Col, i think the reason for it "sliding & switching" better on the 08 model is that the fin size is smaller 50's instead of 60's...cant wait to get out on it again, but this no wind lark down south is a killer !....oh well gives me some time to get on with converting my T4 ! Quote
criticalkiter Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Did anyone get to try an 08 Shinn Twin for comparison? Thanks Quote
kiteingcolin Posted November 6, 2007 Author Report Posted November 6, 2007 Col, i think the reason for it "sliding & switching" better on the 08 model is that the fin size is smaller 50's instead of 60's...cant wait to get out on it again, but this no wind lark down south is a killer !....oh well gives me some time to get on with converting my T4 ! the 08 135 has 55mm fins the same as my 132 666 of 07, but the strange fact is it slides and switches better?? how come? time will tell if others find this as well:) Quote
L3NNY Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Strange my 132 07 board had 60cm fins on and my new 08 has 55cm (sorry not 50's as said in other post) but like you say it does move better and yes i would definatly say its faster Quote

jrobson Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Hi I agree with Derek the old boards were ****, I've tried quite a few nobile boards and they all sucked, spray in the face, slow and draggy feel, bad pads, tried a 666 with LF pads and the board still felt dead(maybe it's a snowboard thing??). Just personal opinion, hopefully the 08 is better, so far it sounds good. One of the reasons these boards are so popular is because Mr Shinn is a good business man, fact is that the profit margin on these boards for the dealers are A LOT higher than any other board, over here you make almost as much on one of these boards as on a kite!! Double as much as some other boards, if you were a dealer what boards would you be pusing? Don't take it the wrong way, plenty of people like them, plenty of people rip on them, they are just not for everyone. Stiff doesn't mean a board handles poorly either a properly designed stiff board will handle chop and landings with ease and have more pop. But it's not the kit it's about the kiter. If you are happy with what you have stick with it. Quote
criticalkiter Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Does anyone know what the dealer's profit margin is on these boards? If it is higher than other boards then you would expect the dealers to be able to offer good discounts? Quote
kiteingcolin Posted November 7, 2007 Author Report Posted November 7, 2007 Did anyone get to try an 08 Shinn Twin for comparison? Thanks i was talking to someone who knows the shinn board very well, the new 08 hs a nick name of the -Seal- this is due to the feel of the board, it feels like Seal skin, wow! a bit risky for use at west kirby don't fancy a 8ft seal that fancys a bit of nookie jumping between my legs, 132 08 666 arriving tomorrow! that board is getting me all excited after two full blasting days on the 135 666 08, have you seen how good they look? im taking mine to bed, pauline can sleep on the sofa:rolleyes: Quote
airwaves500 Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 had a 08 nobile 666 132 for about 3 weeks ... and played in waves at saunton and marazion and it is superb! goes upwind so easily you dont have to think about it... the pop is massive and its very smooth... nuff said Quote
kiteingcolin Posted November 18, 2007 Author Report Posted November 18, 2007 i also now have the 132 666 08, faultless, the 2 boards are a great combination, the 135 is so good in big wind conditions you do not have to come in for a change down if the conditions get harder, before my bigger boards were too hard on the legs to be much fun in bigger winds and waves well happy, the two tone blue is nicer than the blue / red colour, (i have both) Quote
criticalkiter Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 I've used the 06 and 07 666 132 a few times now as well as the 06 and 07 Shinns. I personally much preferred the Shinn boards although I haven't tried the 08 boards yet. I found the 666 too flat/stiff for me and the 41 cm width too "big" even at 85kgs. Lots of people clearly love the 666 and I can see why - fantastic early planning, great upwind and great pop. I prefer the "hovercraft" ride of the shinn boards and the carving is much more satisfying (the 666 carves fast but stiff and you can feel the flat tail rocker) - also the shinns are just a little narrower which suits me more as a one TT quiver. I think the 666 is a unique board because of its Hydrodynamic??? rocker (ie rocker in the centre and flat at the tips?). However, I don't think it is for everybody. In my experience the marketing is correct - 666 for wakestyle, shinn for mixed styles. Quote
