nastride Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I'm just starting out and want to buy a new kite. I've been offered a brand new Best Waroo 07 (11m) with lines & bar for £550. Though I have been advised to go for the new North Rebel 08 (£850+). Toying between the two, do you think its worth paying the extra £300-350 at this stage? Also what size should i be looking to get (11stone 5'8"). Thanks in advance.... Quote
keyrb101 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 flown both, love the rebel but bought the waroo 11 because of price, if your asking the question then go for the waroo, probaly get 14 - 25 knots with a good size board and the jumps are fun and floaty on the waroo. Quote
ShapeShifter Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 A young man in this video was flying a rebel, He came in, took my Bularoo out and said it was the best kite he had ever used. I guess I'd say Waroo if I were you. 300 odd £ ? No brainer. Quote
kitefloater Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 having owned both id say pick up a second hand rebel because.. in my opinion the build quality is better you have the safety of a 5th line release. you have a decent amount of depower throw so you dont lose the bar when you wipe out it has all the features of the waroo and more in my opinion james Quote
kiteingcolin Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 warroos 07 above 5mtr , do not invert, rebels invert, fact!!!!!! no brainer, and look how nice the extra cash pays for a 7 mtr warroo, the best small kite available today under 8 mtr, Quote
kiteaholic Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 you have to fly them both mate, no good listing to people who own the kites. decide for yourself Quote

I guess I'd say Waroo if I were you. 300 odd £ ? No brainer. first of all ignore this total rubish above - this is what best say all the time about all other kites...total marketing b******t. I have had a quiver of 4 waroos and now fly 3 rebels - they're all good kites for different reasons. Quote

As said above I have had quivers of both kites and never ever came close to inverting any in all conditions all sizes, many north flyers here in Devon - never seen an invert (my view is that all kites can invert either due to wave stres or bad kite flying, not kite design). The rebels you flew had to have been trimmed badly. Still respect you as a guru of many a kite but please don't carp on and put people off with cast off remarks which have no merit. Quote
kiteingcolin Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 oops sorry i just reread your post, you are looking at the 08 rebel not the 07, its the 07 that inverts for fun, the 08 is unknown to me, i used to own the 11 mtr warroo07, dont anymore as old toys get ignored as new toys come along, but the fact is the 11 mr 07 warroo is a kite that excells in ways it should not for that price, brilliant kite, dont be put off by the shop guys who hate best for being so good Quote
Pike Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 you have to fly them both mate, no good listing to people who own the kites. decide for yourself the best piece of advice yet for you. However, IMHO & amazingly enough my suggestion is the best waroo as it is cheap, it is a good kite, it is an sle and not hybrid and thus good for you as a beginner (loadsa depower & let go safety). kiteingcolin Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 errr-- ask kev about inverting rebels, great kiter at ainsdale, and i watched him invert one 3 times in one day, kev?? and dave at west kirby, is getting shut of his, one reason is - guess what? shops also have owned up to the fact, but people dont like to say it out loud, i dont care a hoot if i see a kite invert, it has inverted, if i see it 3 times in one day , it has inverted 3 times in one day, and not in the hands of a newbie at that, sorry but thats a fact, puts me off, Quote

ratbag Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I can only comment on the Rebels, but i started out as a total newb on these, 07 by the way, i've slammed em, crashed em, dunked em and they have survived with no damage, build quality is great, the depower has been a life saver, the trim abilities allowing me to develop my skill and not get bored........as for inverting, never happened to me or my mates that fly them, just my opinion on the rebel. Best thing is to try both. Quote
kiteingcolin Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 warroos of 5mtr size can invert and have, two forum members have had them invert, i had a 5mtr warroo, never flew it, and after the second person reported a invert i sold mine as when you invert a kite it can be very nasty, and i never want a kite that is likely to invert when hitting the water or by another means, you dont have to be an idiot to invert a kite, its just that some kites will invert without too much trying, and in this age of kite development you do not need to worry about the problem with so many invert free kites out there but ownere need to be more honest when they flip a kite inside out, it aids others in their choice of kite, loads of kites flip for fun, but most of them are ist or second generation sle/bows, Quote
paulie_amoose Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Nearly 12 months riding North Rebel's and it never inverted on me flying it normally, plenty wipe outs, fudged up jumps, kiteloops to crash it was rock solid in the air. I even tried to force it to invert on me with some extreme sheeting out and it stayed solid...... But, they can invert if you drop it on the 5th line and then lose line tension. This was the only time the kite would invert on me. Just get some tension and it will pop back into shape. Would I buy a Rebel or Waroo? I personally would buy the Rebel but the £300 saving makes a pretty strong case... Quote
kiteingcolin Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 you know , after being part of this post i am glad to have many makes of kite, as i dont give a hoot about whats cool and what brand is the latest must have, at the moment i realy love the royal era 14 mtr, but if its not the right price , stuff it, so what? i love my rippehrs that i have right now, i simply just raved about my x warroos, but the 15 was rubbish for me( and i lost hard cash all my fault) and the 5mtr i was not happy owning, brand loyality is what the brands want, i nearly got sucked into that way of thinking, i promised myself after best kites never to follow one brand, find the best size from the many brands out there i looks like not one brand has the best kites in all sizes, i believe you have to cherry pick the the sizes, and the freedom of speech this gives you is self rewarding, as you know you dont sound like a pimp, i must admit when all my kites were warroo i felt guilty recomending them, i dont own any now apart from the 7, so i feel guilt free when someone asks for a bit of advice Quote
ShapeShifter Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Pike - no beef here fella, whats yours ? Just tellin it how I see it - anything wrong with that ? Shall I go fetch Niklas from the vid to tell you what he said ? FACT - Any Bow SLE will invert if not set up properly. 2 things 1) rock hard LE 2) Rider input - keep some tension on the back lines. Quote

FACT - Any Bow SLE will invert if not set up properly. 2 things 1) rock hard LE 2) Rider input - keep some tension on the back lines. no real beef matey, thanks for putting things straight re inverts and good points Hey, I like waroos had them for a year until I had a line wrap around my ankle (06, snapped bridle - been put off all bridle kites now, little like colin and inverting kites) with the bar nowhere near me - but that's another story. Waroos are good, even great, kites.. I did just have a problem with best's repeated suggestions that everyone who tries a waroo suddenly dumps their own and buys best kites ...it''s just a broken record thing.. This guy needed some independant advice methinks and I reckon he got it! Colin, still big respect to you - I like your reviews, if only I could get different kites for different wind conditions!! Quote
kitefloater Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 ok rebel CAN invert but! mine never did and it spent enough time in the water with slack 5th line and still didnt. if you pump it hard and have a bit of knowledge... its a good kite... can we stop arguing someone asks for advice arnt we as a community supposed to respond and help him instead of having a brand match? james! Pike Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 hey nastride, it's all your fault...should never have asked in the first place...!!! hen heh I hope somewhere in there the answer lies eh? Quote
Blue Ice Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I have a mate that has the 07 Rebel, he loves them but hates the bar setup As for inverting, he has inverted his 07 Rebels quite a few times i have been out! Its always when it hits the water and rolls back on itself! It does this all the time for some reason! 4line SLE's work so well, god knows why they put a 5th line on it! Ps. he still loves his kites though but for me, the Waroo was a lot better! Quote
ShapeShifter Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 cool guys - no brand match here, just a mutual respect one. I answered the thread in truth with no word of a lie. Pikey - all is cool. As you might have noticed - I dont really pimp and havent since the situation took off with upahill, last thing I want is to be branded with that brush. Was a genuine answer thats all. Peace out. Quote
Mr X Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 cool guys - no brand match here, just a mutual respect one. Cough Cough. Best pimps have no shame when it comes to brand bashing. Quote
ShapeShifter Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 More of an inversion discussion Wookie, but if you want to join in - hey why not ? Quote
