Hi,

I did a kitesurfing course last year abroad and got just about up on the board! Now I want to fly in the UK but I am aware of the danger of getting kitesurfing banned at almost all beaches is enough to turn most reasonable people into newbie haters!!!

I want to go to North Devon possibly Westward Ho or Woolcombe and I thought it would be a good idea to get a refresher lesson just for a day.

I have looked on the internet but I cant find any schools. Can you recommend any in this area?

Thanks!!!

Hi Sam,

How very responsible and cautious of you! ;)

I see from your signature that you already have other power kites and so must have an understanding of the wind and power it can produce. So do you really need to spend another £100 for a lesson that will more often than not just cover the things you already know then leave you in the water to flounder about while someone shouts at you from the shore?

There are some things that just can’t be taught. The feeling of being dragged through water with the kite behind you, not knowing sky from sea. Tentative bum rises and falls out of the water as you get the feel of the kite, trying to get up. Being pulled straight over the front of the board as you try to set off too aggressively till you realise to edge a bit and be gentle. The walk of shame upwind as your learning. :D

Ah, just noticed your lesson was a year ago so maybe another one to one would help. :o

But if you do decide to go out on your own, don’t, make sure someone is there for you watching. Even better if some other kitesurfers are around there too, ask for some handy tips, make yourself known and its good to see what your aiming for, pick up what there doing right for you to copy and learn from too. Also don’t go out in strong gusty winds.

Fly safe,

Good luck,:)

hey Sammy. I applaud you for being 'sensible' but we have to be careful we dont all turn into WINDSURFERS eh ???? :D:D:D:D:D

QAll jokes aside, Timmy is right...once you get the basics / theory you just gotta get out there and put the hours in.

Good luck sister.:)

stayed at seabreeze last June and had kitesurfing lessons there with a guy called Richard. Wind was off shore at the time but he has a rescue boat. Nice bloke.

Beautiful accommodation even if the bath was waaaaay too small to stretch my aching limbs after baptism of fire!!:o

Left there buzzin, even tho' i couldnt function properly for several days after!:D :D :D :D
