KevinRoulson Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 Hi, just wondering if there are any buggyiers out there who don't jump etc but just cruise aound but still use an arc??? Thinking of replacing my much used, much repaired, worn out but reliable 6.4 blade and an arc looks very tempting with their stability and gust resistance. I just trundle around on my board and buggy and love my blades (though everyone has bitten me) and something with a reasonable wind range looks good. many thanks Kev Quote
JohnDave Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 An arc will do that for you, a phantom or a venom would be superb. Have you thought about an ozone access too? Quote
kite crazy Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 arcs can be used for buggy-cruising easy. the bomba/vortex was meant as the low-lift wave riding kite, so will not give off that much lift, but the venom/phantom will do you fine. if you ever do want to jump in buggy or on the board then you should look at the phantom, scorpion or venom but if just cruising the bomba/vortex will do you Quote
wenglish Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 trucknut i think its him anyway uses an arc for buggying, big v15 or similer size. he seems to like it a lot. Quote
Crob203 Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 When I buggy I used my 10m VII from 15mph upwards. Was lush Quote
kite crazy Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 When I buggy I used my 10m VII from 15mph upwards. Was lush i loved the 16m v2 in a buggy at around 12mph ish, briliant cruising. Quote
KevinRoulson Posted May 13, 2007 Author Report Posted May 13, 2007 Hi, thanks for replys, have read a lot about the access, nicely made kite that flys great with little lift so sounds ideal. But arc's have grabbed my attention, and a bit different to what I fly now. Had a very brief go on my mates sabre in very little wind, was smooth as you like and buggying with a bar was a revelation. (no tangled mess of strops, kite killers etc and as I have arms like an orang-utan, so I can reach the bar ends o.k!) How do you manage the lift on some of these arcs as I understand they are quite lifty? With blades I guess it's how quickly you move them to the zenith. And is there a decent depower range with arcs? Only reason i ask is the location I fly in. Gusts, wind direction moves, perios of lulls and then periods of high. (I fly on estuary flats, but wind more often then not comes over the town) cheers Kev Quote
kite crazy Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 the depower ranges are excellent, and as i said before, the bomba and vortex are made for reduced lift. the phantom and scorpion are made for lots of lift, and the guerillas and venoms are made for all rounders oh and arcs are the best kite for gusty winds. i dont care what anyone else says, its true Quote
mozza Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 Im planning on getting a venom for cruising, buggy and board. Maybe freestyle if I progress enough. Quote
KevinRoulson Posted May 13, 2007 Author Report Posted May 13, 2007 They seem to be 'super' stable as well. seen the auto zenth video and someone buggying with an arc. Looked very comfortable. Self launching seem to be interesting but just a bit of practice. A least you'll probably only have to do it once during a sesh. cheers Kev Quote
kite crazy Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 the only bad thing about arcs is the fact they can sometimes be a pain to self launch, but trust me it comes with practice they are super stable, if you dont touch the bar, they auto zenith and stay there, theyre awesome. ps - what arc were they using to buggy in? Quote
Crob203 Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 Managing the lift is easy. The Venoms and vortexs wont lift you unless your fly them fast to the zenith and pull the bar in at the same time. With the bar out on the top turn there is no lift due to the massive depower range. The scorpions and phantoms may still lift you though. IMO you should go VI or VII either 13m or 16m depending on what wind ranges your wanting, but in the buggy the 13m will definitely give you the biggest range. Quote
kite crazy Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 have to agree with crob, if in the future youre looking to bounce on a board then the venom 13m (I or II) is the one kite quiver for you Quote
KevinRoulson Posted May 13, 2007 Author Report Posted May 13, 2007 Hi, the kite in question on the vid was a scorpion 10m. came across it in the video's threads. I know that the projected area is different than stated for arc's but 13m? gulp! What sort of wind range would that be for a 16 1/2st lump?? Was hoping 10m might just be enough. cheers Kev Quote
kite crazy Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 oh yeah that one 16m would cover you from 10mph to anything around 20mph depending on experience, but the 13m should take you from 13mph to around 25-27mph again depending on experience, overall id go for the 13m Quote
SoggyUK Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 If just cruising go for a Venom or Vortex. The Scorpian can be a hassle to set up and fly, and is quite twitchy fast, and lifty. Size-wise prolly 16m if you like flying powered up, if not the 13m and lots of signing Quote
Rossp Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 if u are looking for a arc to replace the 6.4's windrange i wouldnt bother. Arcs dont have good lower ends as they need to be inflated. BUT if u just want a kite for 15+ then a arc would be great. I know a guy who buggy's (not jumping) with a phantom. great combo for getting upwind Quote
KevinRoulson Posted May 13, 2007 Author Report Posted May 13, 2007 Hmmmm, lots to think about. I have heard it's possible to get an arc mostly inflated then it will fully inflate as you fly, or is this a myth? Have heard that arcs are good upwind as well. I thought that as I was thinking about replacing my 6.4, I would get something a bit more versatile, but will have to consider the wind range. 5-6mph got me moving with my 6.4 and mates 9.5 sabre1, though not breaking any records! (bigfoots and soft sand) Have to say, arc's look great in the air! presumably, phantoms are lifty like the blades but without the 'no warning' bite you on the bum antics!! cheers Quote
Angoose Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 all day long i can cruise with my phantoms, downturns with the 15m and loops to gain speed with the 9m, there fantastic for it imo. brilliant to just park n ride and just keep going and going effortlessly. Quote
KevinRoulson Posted May 13, 2007 Author Report Posted May 13, 2007 Now that sounds like just the ticket. No more waiting for the 'blade to bite!' How is it in light winds? cheers Kev Quote
Angoose Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 i can cruise with the 15 phantom in about 10mph with working the kite. is sweet up to about 20mph then it gets sketchy. the 9m works from about 15 up to about 25-30 i recon but not tried the 9m in the buggy in the top winds yet. in all fairness for light winds a fixed bridal of about 7m-9m would be a better option Quote
kite crazy Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 arcs arent low wind kites, dont bother going out with the biggest of them in under 10mph. an avrage size (13-16m) will only get you going in over 13mph properly. if you want a low wind kite do what ginger_boarber says and get a 7-9m fixed bridle Quote
maxgtfc Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 My plan today was to go out and cruise with my new 9m riot, low wind kite. Left my V2 at home, DOH. Didn't even dare to launch the 9 due to the wind gusting to about 18-20mph. Oh yeah, thread. Arc = nice, but low wind = big fixed bridle. Sorted Quote
KevinRoulson Posted May 13, 2007 Author Report Posted May 13, 2007 thanks for the info about low winds, arcs looking more like a kite to cover most winds (except very low) if you have limited room in the car because of kids and their clobber and don't have the room to take 1/2 fixed bridles! cheers Quote
kite crazy Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 arcs are pretty big, probs bigger than 2 fixed bridles but theyre much better tbh a 7-9m fixed bridle, a 8-10m arc, 15-16m arc and a small kite for the kids (like a beamer 2.5m) is all youll ever need Quote
