Matita Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Hi guys,I'm italian so sorry if sometimes I'll be uncomprehensible with my poor english I'm planing (but the university have the final choice:mad:) to come to live in Farnham -Surrey- and i was wondering if in the proximity there are good spots to fly and have some landboarding. Any suggestion? Thanks to all! Quote
paseawright Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Is there a university in Farnham? Queens Parade in Aldershot would be your local site, which is not too bad for inland. About 10mins drive from centre of Farnham. Plenty of space and friendly kiters. Have a look on http://www.seka.org.uk for some more details. -- Paul Quote
Matita Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 Thanks a lot! Yes,there is the university college for the creative arts. I hope to meet a lot of kiters then,so i can steal some advices:I'm the real beginner:p Quote
kitebuzz Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Hi mate, I come from bentley a small village just outside farnham, I will be back over easter, there are some good fields around bentley that are ok for flying. But aldershot is the best place for landboarding I hear. Are you new to kiting or just landboarding with a kite? If you want to lift share over there i will be heading there over easter a fair bit. Matita Posted March 21, 2007 Author Report Posted March 21, 2007 Hi mate, unfortunately (and if everything goes right:confused:) I'll be in UK after this summer when the accademic year begin, but your offer sounds great and I'll be happy to meet you and other kiters. I fly my blade III 6.6 from about a year, and i had some kitesurfing lessons too,but my progress with landboard are 0(just some meters before the kite collapse, the problem is the wind, here in Udine(NE of Italy) the wind is low-gusty-and absolutly crazy(the wind,or better the small fart which blows here turns 180° in less than a minute:mad:) So the blade III wasn't the right choice, now I know, but a year ago... At the moment I continue to fly my flexi on bar,but I'm thinking to swap it for a samurai I 5m in a near future,do you think it would be a wise idea? If anyone is inteterested let me know! Oh yes,how is my english? I trust in your judge;),I have to pass the IELTS test before been accepted at the university ooooooh you lucky english speakers:D Quote
Dragon Danny Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Your English is better than most Who have lived here there whole lives! Probably Including mine, from reading your above posts! Quote
happytechie Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 your english is more than fine and if your spoken is anything like as good as your written you'll have no problems. regarding the kite I've always prefered fixed bridle kites on handles, I'd save your cash and stick with the blade. Hopefully I'll see you down at aldershot later in the year and we'll get you boarding in no time. Paul Quote
kitebuzz Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 What are you going to study in Farnham? Yea your English looks great I can't see you having anyproblems. Quote
neilus Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 i just finished doing a degree in farnham (at the university college of creative arts, thats F.U.C.C.A), your local site is queens parade in aldershot, it is a 5 minute train ride followed by a 30 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride (sometimes they can be a bit funny about letting you on the bus with all your kit and board). it's a good site tho, can be a bit gusty at times mind. there is pretty much nothing in farnham itself, although there is some reosnably good downhill mountainboading to be done in farnham park. Matita Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 Thanks guys, hopefully the IELTS commission will think the same about my english:D I'm going to study photography but now I'm a little worried about the neilus comment: "thats F.U.C.C.A" is U.C.C.A. a bad university? Quote
neilus Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 nah it is not bad at all, it is well respected in the world of art and design and the lecturers are generally top notch. i had a great 3 years there, admitidly the town itself is pretty sleepy and the student union is pretty pants, but there are enough pubs to keep you going. (F.U.C.C.A isn't a reflection on the university, it is just an unfortunate acronym of Farnham University College of Creative Arts.) What course are you doing? edit: i see you are doing photography, one of my housemates did that course and spoke very highly of it. Quote
Matita Posted August 26, 2007 Author Report Posted August 26, 2007 Hi guys, finally I'm moving to Farnham (exactly on 28th august) and I'd like to meet other kiters of any age , just let me know, I'll be happy to go to fly together Quote
Roland. Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Hey there! I actualy just joined this forum because of you haha! another great place to fly is Stoke Park in Guildford which is just opposite the Spectrum, and im sure you can get a map off their site, just type it into google or something, but yeah, i fly all kinds of kites and have recently got into landboarding, although i think i need a new kite! but let me know if you ever wanna get together and go out, we can see if we can round pu quite a few people everynow and again Quote
dreadycraig Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Hi, Matita. I live in farnham, drop me a pm when u get to uni and i'll take u to Queens Parade. Regarding Rolands post, I don't think you can do traction based kiting at Stoke Park, Static is fine though. Most importantly, The best pub in Farnham is the William Cobbet, imo. Quote
Roland. Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 craig!! whats all this about not being able to traction at stoke park! help me out here i see people doing it all the time and i have personally never been stoped, i have never even seen any officials? down there and im there alot! but that might be everyone just being naughty Quote
andie111 Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 yeah you cant traction or stoke park i know as my bro was part of the kite club there. but i dont think they check up on it however theres about 200 chavs at the spectrum at once so id avoid it unless you want to get knifed:eek:. other than that it looks like a beasty site with hills, paths ect... i fly at queens parade every windy day:D so just pm me if i wanna go and ill try to get a lift (i only live 5 mins away from it). andie Quote
Roland. Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 aha yeah i dont think they check anymore! but yeah, friday nights or something they organize fights, its really funny ahah! so childish! but it is nice really, wheres queens parade, next time your down il see if i can make it, see how many people we can get down? x Quote
walkeral Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 I moved into Guildford about 2 weeks ago - Stoke Park is about a 10 minute walk from my house. As far as this so-called restriction is concerned, I've read many versions of it (including something about boards 'technically' being allowed due to the wheel diameter!), but so far I have yet to find a sign that spells out what you can and can't do. In fact, the signs surrounding the park do not have any regulations listed what-so-ever. I'm thinking of contacting the council and asking for a paper copy of all the regulations so I can check if there is such a restriction, and if there isn't I'll make it known! I went over to Farnborough / Aldershot yesterday to look at the field (as I've never been there before) - it's a 20 minute drive if the road is clear and there's a lot more parking there than in Guildford. Also, there were only a few people about - one flying a model aeroplane, one with a large kite on handles, one with a smaller depower and one with a PL Vortex. 30 minutes later back in Guildford, the park was full of families with kids (and bikes), and in the space of 10 minutes no fewer than 5 groups of people walked straight across my lines as I was setting them up (and I can't say that ever happened to me in 4 years on Southampton Common under similar conditions), so I can only assume people round here don't even know what a power kite is! Anyway I think that's the longest forum post I've ever made. I'd like to get to know people who kite regularly in Guildford or Farnborough / Aldershot so I can go when other people are around. Quote
Roland. Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 haha what a good idea!! either contact the council and find out, or dont bother, pretend we dont know and we are sorted there is alot of parking in the college park and you can walk about 5 mins to get to the top feild or you can park in the spectrum or go where i normaly park, which is round the other side of the field and i always find a space. anyway im always down guildford and if you dont mind flying with someone younger drop me a line, we'll see who we can gather and should get a big group going down there regularly! Matita Posted August 31, 2007 Author Report Posted August 31, 2007 Thanks for all your replies, finally I'm in Farnham so when you are going to fly PM me,I'll be happy to join Quote
Crispy Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 The SEKA thread for meeting at Queens Parade is here: http://www.seka.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=1700. Suscribe to the thread and you get an email every time someone posts that they're going (or when Dan starts spamming ). If it helps, I'll be there tonight, M25 permitting, as I've got a new kite. If not, Sunday's got a better forecast than tomorrow so there should be a few people around. Chris Quote
andie111 Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 I've got a new kite. Chris oooh wot did you get in the end!! Quote
Badger Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 I've got a new kite. Chris oooh wot did you get in the end!!I'm guesiing a 7.2 Sammi from the Sig . So you will be out and about more often when the wind drops Chris . Steve. Quote
Crispy Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Yep, that's the one. After not racing for the last two meetings at QP I thought it was the best way of guaranteeing 40mph+ winds at the next one... Quote
