boughtonja Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 hi, this may be a stupid question but is middle wallop kiteable when its not the festival or is it just closed for the event? also does anyone have any info on flexiwallop 3 as the only link i can find is for last years event. any help would be great, thanks. james Quote
martin Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Many have tried to gain access to Wallop other than the festival (me being one of them) but it's a "no go". Too many other people using it at weekends + the AAC need it for training pilots. Quote

Chris L Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 We are lucky to get Wallop, There are a number of laws relating to kiting activities laid down by The Civil Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Defence. (Directorate of Airspace Utilisation) Amendments to the laws were made in 1996. Relevant laws are: (Articles 55,56,76, 118 & 121 and Rule 14) The C.A.A. classifies kites as aircraft. You must not: fly a kite more than 30 metres (100') above ground level within 5 kilometres (3 miles) of an airfield. You should avoid take off and landing flight paths. Quote
KiteBoyStu Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 kites + helicopters = big knots in your lines i wish my drive was as big as yours:D Quote
Prattymatty Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 It's an operational airfield most of the time. Kites + helicopters = bad Kites + helicopters = HANGTIME Hahahahaha! Awesome idea dude! Quote
martin Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Weekends though? I rekon I could get on with my ID.... Chris You don't need ID. There's ramblers on there frequently. Quote
Crob203 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Oh so even when the airfield is inactive at weekends you cant get on? Chris Quote
happytechie Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 it is active at the weekends, I think it's used by light aircraft as well as a few helicopters then. Remember that the army work 24/7. Quote
crut Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 And I am sure nothing would stop flexi wallop happening than some random kiter just going and playing on the air field. Quote
j_noiseboy Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 The aifield gets used very rarely at weekends, which is aright PITA when you can see it from your local spot... Shame really would be awesome to be able to use it when i wanted... *dreams of wallops past* 'sigh' Quote
martin Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Paragliding/wippets/model air craft clubs get to use it but kite clubs don't. Quote
boughtonja Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 *******s dont appreciate the better sports in life. i would have though that model aeroplanes would be more dangerous to air travel than our 25ish metre lines. we should put the question to the right people becasue it doesnt make sense to me. espeacially due to the massive space and the appareent infrequent use of the airspace. domdino Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 ahh there allready is one. that was stupid of me. disregard then. I love the fact that the wallop thread started only a few months after the previous wallop.. we's all so excited :) Quote
