Stacey Fonas Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 That there's an entire post about him pretty much says it all. Someone's doing things that the majority of the kiteworld can only talk about. Go, Aaron :) http://bestkiteboarding.com/site/Images/07_news/brazilah.jpg Quote
paseawright Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 I guess we now know whay he never wins sports "personality" of the year -- Paul Quote

spooky Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Hi, I do not think his skill nor his personality can be brought it to question, its Ace in both respects. The thing that bugs me is they way he has been "marketed" in this vid Why is it when ever something is aimed at the 'youth' or 'extreme' market that it has to adopt the "walk around and act stoned" approach? You can see he looks so uncomfortable in it, not just the scripting either. Besides take alook at real extreme sports people (not those that pretend to be by default), they are not spaced out drop outs, most are highly skilled and inteligenent people who adopt a more profesional and systematic approach to what they do, as if not they would nevr reach that level. So why do they market it as something it is not? To me they should market him for what he is and what he can do, a nice lad who is awsome at kitesurfing!! Jon Quote
RandomJon Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Having never met the guy I can't comment on his personality, and if you havent neither should you. I have maximum respect for the guy from his achievments and his riding style as seen on vids, thats enough in my view. As for the vid on his site, its so obvious he's reading from a script, thats what most people sound like when they're forced to read something on camera. Thats why actors get paid to act Quote
vpas Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 they are not spaced out drop outs, most are highly skilled and inteligenent people who adopt a more profesional and systematic approach to what they do, as if not they would nevr reach that level. 100% agreed. So why do they market it as something it is not? Coz marketing types are out of touch with reality. Half the time they're trying to create markets and images that don't exist in order to sell a product. We should be proud to have a British multiple World Champion in a sport as cool as this. Who cares if he's young, good looking, minted, has travelled the world many times over, kites all year in the best spots, gets free gear... what's not to like? Quote
Big Damo Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Get a video camera, record yourself and try not to sound like... 1. A right w***er 2. The most boring person on the planet! Guarenteed challenge! Ever watched the exponents of the dodgy game of footy interviewed? Not many of them can deliver a sentence without dribbling! Granted, putting your hat on straight might get your granny off your case. Not developing a dodgy accent would be helpful, guess you'd have to stop hanging around at beautiful worldwide destinations with a diverse populus. Getting a good marketing team might be more of a do-able quick fix or you could just say this is 3x world champion aaron here check back later... dude! Whatever, my job was boring today... wish I had his! I was in Egypt when aaron rolled up. I stood back and watched as quite a few brown nosers got stuck in. He was pleasant, professional and brilliant to watch. Might he be 'acting'? Be funny if he's just taking the p iss! Quote
Big Dog Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Ill go with that! He doesnt sound that strange, a bit of a twang Quote
muppetbro Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 hell theyll never be another robby naish ever who had the talent charisma intelligence and vision - what do u guys want aaron comes across as a great young role model maybe shy so what he rips and hes abrit and we shud be proud of him - ive never heared of him criticising other kite brands or designs and fleifoil should be proud of him as we all should be ruben i saw out in el med 3 yrs ago i remember vividly as being regarded as an a rrogant little kid by the locals and i recall his arguing with a spanish family who didnt like him dropping his kite while their kids were swimming - i rememebr a local instructor saying yeh hes amazing but all he has to do is say sorry but no he goes home on a plane and leaves the venue for the locals to deal with if i was into pr id be searching the globe for the next world champion and the first t hing id do is get him inked up perced pink hair and tell every competitor to fk off in a heat - then hed become a popular role model for the youth of society..............unfortunately but id be rich hypocracy i know we all have our price mart go to el med in tenerife and chat to mark shinn - shy unassuming who will be so happy to talk to him but dont be offended if he doesnt smile at you cos he doesnt look for the attention - theres also a reason hes doing so well in hius business ventures living the dream - of course were all jealous Quote
Enders13 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Maybe Aaron uses up all his tallent on the water? It's a shame as we want to be uber proud of him and for him to be as cool as Mark Shin. Especially if what we see in things like that vid is not the real Aaron. He is Mr Technical and Ruben is Mr big. I'm glad they are both there and look forward to the battle of next season! Now all we need is a regular PKRA spot on British terrestrial! Quote
Ned1599968590 Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 lol i love it, one comment and the forum has gone all deep on me Quote
PieGuy Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 ok, so i took it a bit far, that one video still doesnt change the fact hes one of the best kitesurfers, if not the best kitesurfer around. i just dont understand why as soon as money comes into the equation the attitude towards the sport changes completely.. I wasnt judging his personality, just the fact that it was quite obvious he was 'talking the talk'. Quote
CoyoteBoy Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 He does seem to come across in a rather "im showbiz, hippity hip hop im cool" kinda way which im sure hes not in real life. But then id probably do the same too if i were trying to do a video on the most mundane of things and make it sound like a sales pitch. And theres a clear divide between respecting his skills and him as a person so its perfectly justifiable to judge them seperately - I could respect a mass murderers inginuity and cunning to outwit police, but i wouldnt necessarily like his personality. enterusername Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 whats the song on the video???????? Quote
Joe2003 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 whats the song on the video???????? read the post! think he is alright, just seems uncomfortable and staged. Again though, I prefer rubens riding but thats just my opinion. Quote
Tone Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 you lot need to get out more... ffs, get a life. chap spends years traveling the globe, he is sucessful and has a life most of us struggle to dream. he talks like he is well traveld. damn, i can't belive i actually wasted my time posting to so many oddballs. Quote
enterusername Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 says him whos nearing the 2500 post mark!! Quote
Tone Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 yup, full on fool. the reply was in context to this post. not outside this post. 2500 posts in 4 years is only 1.6 posts a day.... hardly a problem is it? it just seems so silly when people call him a "sell out" for being how he is.... this country is a place that celebrates the mediocre, those that are average at best, when we have someone truly amazing at what he does, there is always seems to be someone ready to knock him. Quote
keishin Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 for once i agree with tone... jelousy realy doesnt suite u lot Quote
Tone Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 only the first time you have agreed with me? damn, i have to try harder! Quote
dave1986 Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 those kiteloops in the vid look sick! Quote
Jofski Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 you know probably one of the reasons for redoing his site and showcasing him as person is that there has been so much stuff about how Ruben is amazing and much better and all the other riders that have a wacky sense of humor and do stupid stuff for the camera, that everyone forgets that the guy has nothing left to prove to his peers or any member of the public as far as his abilities go. he has grown up in a fairly different way of life to most, has seen more of the world and got more life experiences in his short life than many will ever manage and that will have shaped him as a person. doesnt make him any less of an indevidual than anyone else, and Pieguy if the situation was reversed how much respect should he have for you.. "Hi Aaron, never met you before but really love your riding but i have lost all respect for you" James Naish UK mate - get yer head outta his arse ! Quote
