Pilgrim Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Still a strong community at Mable, and quite a few new faces. Not quite "local" for you guys, though when I first started there were only BNUK'ers there...along with Buzzer and Ed of course. How times have changed
Porkchop Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Hello everyone - just knocking the cobwebs off my login! I am a very sad person who has taken to hanging round on Facebook now - if any of you get the chance, log in and find me. Been reading through the posts and it's taken me 3 days to stop laughing at the thought of Jango & Jonnie squeezed into an old mini!!!! Is there any photographic evidence in existance?!?!? I have to say that it is my fault that we have got a mini - a couple of friends in work bought one each and said they were brilliant and I've always wanted one. Also, Nick nearly needed therapy when we had to buy a tax disk for the A3, so a month in a padded cell would have been on the cards if we had got to to the MOT point!!!!

Pilgrim Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Happy birthday Mike Hope Le Mans trip was a success. BTW I'm on the lookout for a cheap kite for boarding (see post in landboarding thread). Anyone got 'owt?
ScoobyRob Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Happy birthday Mike Did you get many perms in at LeMans???? Nice to see the Aston's won GT1
Mike R Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Morning Everyoner. Thanks for the birthday wishes 46 years and 15 of marriage all on the same day LeMans was excellent (apart from the amount of pissheads that now seem to attend and just drink themsellves stupid all weekend ) Racing was extreemly tight between the Audi's and the Pug's , one lap seperating 1st and 2nd after 24 hours that works out at about 3mins . The Astons were just awsome both those on the track and those on the roads . The rain made it a little more interesting Sat Night Sun Morning one or two failed to make it out of the barriers Got bought a track day from Mr's R for me birthday so I'll be trying (and failing no doubt) to replicate the LeMans 24 minutes in me Tiger sometime soon . Anyone been to Bedford Autodrome ??? (One of the choices for a days play) Nick / Vicky keep me posted on the Mini Mr's R is comtem, plating changing to one the Freelander is getting a tadge expensive to run  Mike R
Sir Harvo Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 A belated Happy Birthday Mike. The race last week was riveting, I kept checking up what was happening... Bedford is supposed to be a great track, I know it allways sells out quicker than most. Anyone seen Jim on Big Brother yet....
Pilgrim Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Happy birthday Carl!! (seems like every fekkers birthday but mine:( )
Porkchop Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Nick / Vicky keep me posted on the Mini Mr's R is comtem, plating changing to one the Freelander is getting a tadge expensive to run  IT'S BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!! :D She'll love it and it is fairly economical - we average 40 to the gallon with a Cooper S. They do a diesel that is only £35.00 a year road tax, but not sure what it's like to drive............Nick is the person you need for an opinion on that one! Our mini gets it's new hair do on Friday - red, white and blue!!!

coupe-se Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Yo Mike!! The Mini. Not sure how new you are going for but do try and get a R55/R56 second generation one (do not buy a Convertable yet as they are still using 1st gen engines!!). The 2nd Gen Mini's use a completely different and vastly better engine that is more economical and has alot lower Co2 figures. The 2nd generation car looks the same as the 1st gen ones initially but is completely different and much improved in the quality stakes. The 1st generation ones have alot of common faults that the redesigned 2nd generation cars has addressed. The car is alot bigger inside than you think (weird but true), our cooper S is only .5m shorter than our A3 Sportback. I've found that I've had to adjust a few minor niggling issues that you wouldn't expect on a car of this price. The car is actually quite quiet at motorway speeds, and the majority of noise in our car is from the 205 45 R17 runflat tyres. Our Cooper S is very torquey for a 1.6 and drives quite nicely at 1500rpm. 70mph in 6th on our car is just under 3,000rpm, so is quite unstressed. The steering is quite heavy compared to alot of modern cars and quite direct. Make sure your wife test drives it down a bumpy B road as the runflats stiffness can make the steering snatch quite badly! The adjustment on the seat and steering column is excellent and both me and Vicky can get nice and comfy at the wheel. Equipment wise, the base car is bloody basic!! The must have pack for re-sale and driver comfort is the Chilli pack and gives manual air-con. We have found that we can drive our car in the same rev range and manner as our A3 diesel and are getting less than 5mpg difference on our normal weekly driving routine. If you want to have a good nose round ours and have a test drive to get a feel for it without a salesman on your shoulder ............. feel free. Girlies do seem to love them for some reason.
Mike R Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Cheers Nick Some usefull Info in there Mike R
GrolschUK Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 Just thought i'd pop in and say hi, since i've not done for a while, and see how everyone is. Just read through the last 15 pages or so to play catch-up and seems people have been busy Good to see you like the new motor, should look great with the union jack on top. Jo is looking at replacing her 56 corsa soon as it keeps getting annoying problems that the garage don't seem to care about, the latest ended up getting the ECU replaced (which then somehow buggered up the air con). Carl - Gratz on getting wed, hope things are still going well a few weeks down the road Added Jon and Vicky on facebook if you wonder who the random James is that has just requested it. Busy 6 months or so here and not much time to fly as either the weather has been poo, or busy on the good days... went to Venezeula for 2 weeks at the start of the year, really beatuiful country and got to see once of the places where they filmed jurassic park Been over to mable a couple of times when 15-20 easterlies have been forcast, to find that it's really 30+ and can get 35mph out of a 1.7 sting. Hope to make use of the caravan @haven at bit more this year for long kiting weeks and weekends - wind allowing. And having just moved into a flat with Jo, the last 2 weeks have been spent decorating the old place so it's in a respectable state to try and sell. Know anyone wanting a 3-bed extended semi? And (as people seem to know about all subjects on here) whats the deal with HIP, and at what point does the house need one (before/during/after being put up for sale). Anyways, enough of my rambling, and hope to catch those left in the Uk down the beach sometime.

Surfleet park, just behind the village hall ain't too bad if the winds in the right direction.
