Fawke Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Hi all, Well. Just went out to blow the cobwebs off my u-turn oxi-pro and wow... got seriously spanked all over the field. Was clearly overpowered and consiquently got dragged along on my knees for 50ft before being luffed on to my face. Left the field with my tail between my legs remembering not to underestimate these kites again.... and to post a WANTED ad for a oxi-pro 2m.... Just thought id share it! Quote
mozza Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 That happened when I had my 7m beamer, wind was so light I had to run to get it up! gust caught me in the power zone and I was already on my knees, was dragged about 30m face first! Quote
PieGuy Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 yeah.. 50 - 60mph gusts aint the best of conditions for a 3 meter (speaking from experience... ) Quote
Fawke Posted December 3, 2006 Author Report Posted December 3, 2006 he he, arms are killing but great fun tho..... What do you guys use for high wind gusty conditions? When purchasing i thought the 3.2 would be a high wind kite - but it generates so much power have had to classify it as a med-highish wind kite..... Guys i go flying with generally use the 2m Sami's when iv got the 3.2..... when will i have enough kites to go out in all winds!!!! he he! Quote
mozza Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Lil exit 1.45 in winds too much for blade, getting a rush 200 soon (hopefully) Quote
kite crazy Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 rage 1.8 are apparently brill for high winds, although after flying the 2.5 and 3.5 i dont really see what the fuss i all about, but i havent tried them in high winds, so they may get quite good.... ...what do you want it for (jumping scudding boarding buggying etc etc) Quote
Miaspa Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Was out on Sunday with my 3.0m and a little overpowered, boderline decision kept an eye on the windmeter and decided it was ok. Good hour long session (just a bit of recreational scuds and jumps), till the winds starting picking up again. I usually move onto my stackers once the three metre becomes to much, but was completely cream krackered. Quote
Rossp Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 i love flying my blade in mad winds. I know its stupid but thats the fun of it.. 3m blade totally overpowered 40-50mph winds. Mad lift and a great adrenalin rush. And as long as u can fly it well it can be quite floaty as long as u keep it moving. Quote
mikeymustard Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 My 3.2 oxi has me in the air at 20mph and I'm a fat *******! In a 40+mph gust my lil devil 2.1 had me doing a superman - try getting a soft landing out of a kite that size lol. Apart from its water repellant properties, the lighter materials of the oxi pro don't make much difference at this size, given the speed of wind it tends to be flown in. Quote
Samman1 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 never flown in seriousely high winds but i like jumping in high winds cos u dont have to do much to get pulled high. Quote
MadMan1520 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 down the local beach, quite a few of us have taken to buggying with a rage (the middle one) in high winds, works a treat, 10-20mph in a bug Quote
Pablo Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Well, for seriously gusty winds the Brooza does great, I've used my 3m in winds of 20 gusting to 35mph no problem. I'd assume the 2m would be equally well behaved in higher winds. Quote
Fawke Posted December 7, 2006 Author Report Posted December 7, 2006 Yea, i mean the oxi i was flying is usually pretty stable. I underestimated the gusts at the weekend and really need to invest in a windometer!!! My arms have just recovered.... Funny how i was detirmined not to let go - flying through the air superman style at a rate of knots you would think it would be a natural instinct to let go of the thing that was causing the issue!!!! Nope.... blindly clinging on knowing gravity is inevitable.......... Quote
kite crazy Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 i think not letting go is a natural thing.... ..when i first went on a kite (beamre 2.5m in 25mph winds) i got spanked, dragged along, thrown up, dropped, half the time with ginger_boarber goign LET GO SIMON, JUST LET GO YOU HAVE KITE KILLERS ON..... ...ah well im fine now Quote
keishin Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 ...ah well im fine now thats what they all say... mwha ha ha haaa err as for me i use my 7m in strong winds, no winds, gusty winds and clean winds... i got spanked big time on my sami so i tend to leave it in the bad unless its a nice mild wind:) Quote
