RB Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 I have 100% respect for the bloke and think he is a really good laugh, obviously a very talented driver and for me he makes Top Gear what it is…. But as above, a jet car is a step too far… I hope he makes a full recovery Think the BBC have a lot of questions to answer Quote
cassiewoofer Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 I really like Hamster brilliant presenter and i sure hope he makes a full recovery, however the very sensible words in previous posts do suggest these celebs often get too much choice to do what they want. Quote
Docgreen Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 he would of had or been told atleast how to handle this beast by the owner or pilot i find it very hard to beleive he just got in and put his foot down...for 1 the bbc risk asesment wouldnthave let him ...2 his own insurance wouldnt have let him...big names such as him are governed by so much they cant just get in and go .....he would of been showed what how to and when to do what ........ kiteboarder-F16 Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 hope he recovers okay.... Quote
SandMonster Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 1) Hope Richard makes a full recovery 2) What makes top gear a good programme is the impression that they do do stuff that is outside the 'rules' ...the report I heard was that the incident happened after the main record break attempt while filming some extra footage for the tv...I wonder if they tried something a little bit 'extra' that went horribly wrong...I'm all for safety etc. but lets not stop the few who do push the boundaries. 3) When is 'Top Kite' gonna be on TV? Active-8 Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 i was looking at the track mark thismorning from the helicoper veiw on the news. all i can say is ucking hell, the marks start on the runway then you can see where he took of and landed and up again and down. they said his cushion slipped and he couldnt see over the wheel. all say about TG, which he is well funny on but also i like him in brainiac's he make the program. get well soon soon Hamster are hearts are with you and your family. jack blood Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 yeh hes in leeds hospital all the tv cameras are outside, one of the med students in my flat got told that hes ina pretty bad state:( Quote
mikland Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 I saw those track marks too, first thing that occured to me was that they looked very tight for something going 100 mph, let alone nearer 300. Must have been some sort of mechanical failure to cause it to veer that sharply. I've seen some gnarly dragster crashes but as was mentioned in a earlier post, drag strips have crash barriers either side to keep it all a bit more in-line when stuff does go pop. Anyhoo, our thoughts are with Hamster and his family. Get well soon fella! If he does make a good recovery, will they show the crash on TG do you think??? Quote
Morb Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 i hope so! they prolly used my licence fee to film it! (i want to see it even if he pegs it!) Quote

Active-8 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 It was the BBC's fault for not doing it a week earlier. if it had been done on Sunday then he wouldn't have slipped off his booster seat and pulled on the one side of the wheel casing the car to go to the right and the seat getting stuck under the peddles.lol Quote
abbe89 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 awwwww!! i was away on a fieldwork trip when this news came on the telly...all the girls in my class were really upset and the guys were pretty gutted too!! i really love him i hope he gets better....thinking of him and his family. I heard on the radio earlier though that Clarkson visited him, called him a crap driver and he smiled Quote
