DaveN Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 I am about to add a depowerable to my quiver but wonder how to attach it to my climbing harness. I tried putting the loop through the wichard but this makes the bar quite a way away - it might be difficult to get to the kites safety release as it is past the bar. As there is a primary and secondary release on the kite do I need my QR? Is there a problem in just getting a small shackle or carabiner and attaching the loop to the harness with no wichard? Any thoughts? Quote
Little an Large Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 i use a carabina without the wichard, after all whats the point in having a quick release chicken loop and a wichard?? only use the wichard with the handles, or u could try replacing the loop (depending on the kite an bar setup) with a small metal ring an hooking that into your wichardwhich would bring the bar allot closer Quote
8015 Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Depends a bit on your chicken loop setup. The older style where the depower rope separates from the loop can go on quite a small crab because the chicken loop QR is still totally effective. If you have a more modern type where the chicken loop straightens out and goes with the kite and bar you need to make sure your carabiner or ring is large enough that the stiff chicken loop cannot jam as it slides through when "staightening out". There is one other issue, having a single point load on the chicken loop rather that the 2 point load of a hook MAY cause the loop to crease and wear out more quickly. I keep forgetting to get myself a separate donkey dick thing and one of my bars uses a naish chicken loop that doesn't have one built in - I just thread the chicken loop through my hook rather like you will be doing with a krab or ring and it's been OK so far (I'm not intending to do it forever for the sake of an item costing a couple of quid though!). Don't forget you need to clip the leash somewhere separate from the chicken loop! Jim Quote
Mike R Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 or u could try replacing the loop (depending on the kite an bar setup) with a small metal ring an hooking that into your wichardwhich would bring the bar allot closer Done this mod on my access works really well . I made up a complete new centre cord and used a stainless D shackle available from any good chandlers. I used a 40mm d shackle which makes a nice loop for the release to work with . Also shacled the top end of the cord (Smaller shackle) so I can easily swap back to chicken loop configuration if needs be. Mike R Quote
raptor Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 there is nothing stopping you from using a crab from the loop on the clibing harness straight to the chicken loop. just make sure the crab is a screwgate typre and not just a snap close type for security. then attatch the safety strap to another part of the harness.
