K, so I'm doing pretty good with going backwards, fairly well powered up, so I get going backwards pretty quick and do the weight shift and crank the wheel sending the nose downwind to try and snap it around, keeping the kite on about a 45deg angle, problem is I keep making it 1/2 way and getting ejected, the front's not breaking loose.

Ideas?

Is it easier to go round putting the front wheel upwind or downwind?

Man, my hip hurts, I think it's turning blue.:o

I find it easier to turn the front of the buggy down wind when reversing to turn the buggy into a forward direction. However, I do a fair bit of reversing in the dunes and will turn the front of the buggy either up or downwind depending on the slope that I'm on and nature of the space between the sand walls.

K, that's the way I'm going, are you keeping the kite at a constant height/direction, or are you bringing the kite a little higher to unload the wheels? Or do I just need more momentum?

Currently, I've been keeping the kite at about a 45deg angle. probably going in at somewhere around 10mph.

Try to get a little more speed. And do it with the kite above you close to the zennith, this should stop you getting yanked out of the buggy. I am still learning backwards / 180, and find that the easiest way is by parking the kite above me as i break traction.

Hi pablo

I found down wind turns easier when learning and I would agree with what has been said about more speed and keeping you kite slightly higher;) The only time I OBE doing 180's now is if I aint got enough speed M8.Also I found that you need to really commit yourself and throw your hips into it especially when you start 180ing from forwards into reverse:eek: I think the moral of the story is practise practise and more practise.

think you need to need to turn your wheel twice

once to get you round to 90 degrees then again in the direction you want to travel to get you round.

i was getting half way round then tipping out or just skidding when i only turned my wheel once. (depending if i was doing it up or downwind)

i am not confident about this advice as i'm still trying but it works so far

good luck

Downwind 180's:

Be moving backwards at around 5 to 10 mph. With kite reasonably low, but not too low  . Turn the wheels upwind and the buggy will start to move around. About halfway round turn the otherway (in to the movement of the buggy) and you will skid round and move off as normal (hopefully). Remember to lean away from the kite but at the same time keep as much weight as possible over tha back of the buggy - this allows the front to swing round better.

Upwind 180's: Start moving backwards as before. But have the kite sitting higher. This time turn as if you were doing a normal, forward downwind turn. I.e point the wheels downwind. As you do this lower the kite slightly, this is the crucial bit. You have to lean under the lines, away from the kite and allow the extra power to pull you round. If you are not wearing a harness then it will be harder to do this as you are leting the lines go over your head. Once you have mastered this allow the kite to do a full down turn and when you are completing the 180 turn downwind and you should be able to do a reverse 360 without buch problem. HAVE FUN!!!:D

Well I see 2 big problems already, leaning back on the bug and wet sand, put it this way, when run over the sand with the bug, enough water gets squished out to leave puddles on the surface. so yeah, it's pretty grippy.

I'll try again and see how it goes. I wanna have reverse and 180's nailed before I take up jumping.

take a look at the how to section on powerkiteshop.com

And remeber if you ain't coming out you ain't trying hard enough, have fun it will all come together in the end.

Also helps if you can watch others that can do the tricks, also get someone to film you so you can see what your doing that can help big time.

Meeting up for a weekend with some kinda local buggy jumpers this summer, Should be able to learn tonnes from them, just trying to get as far along so I can learn more advanced stuff fromt them.

I see the dangers in a powered up 5m kite though, it's not only the blades, this lil 5m F-one has repeatedly kicked my behind.

Pump yer back tyres up, let yer front tyre down. Keep the kite locked in the same position by putting them at shoulder height on the kite side. Throw yer hips into the spin. Be commited and ride it out. As you come round to a 180 your handles and kite will be perfectly positioned to continue in reverse over your shoulder.

Once you've mastered that 360s 540s 720s are easy.

Ride it out bro, have a laugh.
