Plugus Maximus Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 That's one hell of a vid! Wow!!!!! Are they definitely paragliders and not kites? Quote
rrc62 Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 You can't do that with a paraglider. A paraglider has too much lift and is too slow. In other words, instead of making a high speed run down the mountain a few feet off the snow, with a paraglider you would take off and fly...probably gaining altitude, especially if the wind is blowing up the mountain. This is actually standard procedure for launching a paraglider. Nothing extreme about it, unless you call paragliding extreme. To do what they are doing, you need a smaller, faster wing that doesn't produce as much lift. It's been done with a kitewing and seems to work well. Look at the videos on the Kitewing website. It could also be done with a 4 line kite if you rigged the bridles, maybe with some short flying lines, to a jump harness and the brake lines to some steering handles. Rig it just like a paraglider and it should fly just like a paraglider, just not as much lift. As with anything, start small and slow and work your way up. If you go for maximum speed with a big kite right from the start, you're probably asking for a trip to the ER. Quote
rrc62 Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 That's one hell of a vid! Wow!!!!! Are they definitely paragliders and not kites? They are high performance ram air parachutes. The type used for skydiving. Quote
Josh1599968683 Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 oooh what about the south downs? i'm going work on not work just boarding on a hill like that with a kite sounds perfect will take a buggy along too :D:D hmm doing a pendulum jump if the wind was blowing down the hill would be good! and i'm sure you'd get a little more lift and hang time if the wind is blowing up the slope! well thats coming to windy weekend near me! can't w8 to give it a go i'll report back :D:D Quote
Josh1599968683 Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 6.6 heading directly down slope with bugyy with wind blowing up slope and then when lift comes bye bye buggy and bye bye me :D:D might get the balls to have go depending on conditions Quote
northern jim Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 They are high performance ram air parachutes. The type used for skydiving. this guy knows what he's talking about. True, I suppose a wing would be too slow. And probably too stable. May be best with something like a 7m busta and a para harness? Not very lifty, easy to control... Quote
