gsmarty Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Has anyone thought about putting an engine on a buggy? about 50-125cc Quote

ants_in_ya_pants Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Engine?! Isn't that what the kite is there for?! Quote
LilPeteMordino Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Engine?! Isn't that what the kite is there for?! What about the 'Not being able to get back up the beach'? Surely an engine would answer that, In style. Quote
oc1rob Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Recon could get a V8 on the back of mine!!! Got and inlet manifold, four Barrel carb & air filter for a rover V8 festering on the shelf in the garage if you decide to go for it Quote
henrik Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Has anyone thought about putting an engine on a buggy? about 50-125cc you can see a vespa-like motor fixed to a buggy in this VID at [01:13]: http://www.stornostore.de/videos/buggyblast13.zip Quote
pyromunky Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Now that would be ace the sound of a rover V8 on the back of a flexi haha imagine those tyres struggling to put down the power, seen as the 225's have trouble in the tvr chimaera, sand wouldnt do it any good tho Quote
Newbie One Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 What about the 'Not being able to get back up the beach'? Surely an engine would answer that, In style. Practice makes perfic take it from me. I speak from experience and the humility of pulling the buggy and kite back to where I started from...... several times Quote
daft mick Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Forget that idea, there will be a lot of added drag due to driveshafts etc when not being engine powered. Kite is the main source of power, eco friendly etc. I do believe that this is what is needed to get back upwind. Lighter, and perfect to fit onto a buggy. Looks the ticket as well! http://www.simplejets.com/ Might spoil your rucksacks though.. Quote
ants_in_ya_pants Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 What about the 'Not being able to get back up the beach'? Surely an engine would answer that, In style. To be honest I've never had that problem! Quote
Dr-Manic Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Has anyone thought about putting an engine on a buggy? about 50-125cc been done already its called a go kart:rolleyes: Quote

Jonesing4Wind Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 I have been asked this question numerous times, but that would take the challenge and fun out of it... IMHO of course! Sean Quote
Big Gaz Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 Why not just get one of these, Its got 3 wheels and a engine, and great fun when theres no wind Quote
Pablo Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 Easy enough to do, weld/bolt a sprocket to one rear rim, put a centrifical clutch on a 3-5hp mower engine, one from a reel style mower works great because the drive comes out the side. fit a chain and done, with the centrifical clutch, it'll freewheel no problem when your under kite power. We made a go-cart this way and it worked great, I'd have to agree with others though, it'd take something away from the whole harnessing nature wind power side of things. Could always use one of these if you really want something for the low wind days: http://gprime.net/video.php/gixxerkart Quote
The_DevilsRazor Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 Make one of the pulse jet engines like they did on Scrap Heap challenge. speedsailors Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 when St ivel Gold was first released years ago, the advert had Speedsails in it, it was filmed on the south downs, they speedsailed up and down the roads, they put 50cc engines on the back, driven by another wheel on to the road, and brakes fitted on the boom, but the brakes didnt work very well, they tended to go str8 on at the corners etc, lots of pile ups etc. Cheers Chris Quote
Joe2003 Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 wouldnt you need to replace the whole axel and put a diff in, else you couldnt really turn Quote
surf1973 Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 What about using a chain saw motor..... after removing the teeth Quote
buggy nut Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 we thought about this but prob is your not meant to use petrol driven things on a lot of beaches, but you can use a hovercraft....... so we came up with the idea of a prop based buggy so infact its a bit like a microlite without a wing and if you have eve taxi'ed in a microlite without a wing, you will know how fast they can get upto Quote
