Hello all,

I have been flying my Blade 3 4.9 at the weekend, with my buggy.

Boy its got some power - but was, on several occasions, ripped out of the buggy due to the lift the kite generates on the turns....

I have been contemplating a Bullet 05, either a 5.5 or a 7.

Which size am i going to use most? is the 7 too overpowering in stronger winds? should i really be looking @ the 5.5?

Also, if any body knows of any other really good buggy/traction engines that do not generate alot of lift!!!

My Skytiger 40 got a look in at the weekend - now that does say something!!!

Recommendations and comments much appreciated.

If you are incapable of thinking outside of the Flexi Box - then the 5.5 Bullet is probably the better of the two IMHO. It turns fast enough that you can work it to give more power than the 7 in the right wind conditions.

Personally I use the Vampirs from Libre for more power size for size than the Bullets.

Sparhawk - thanks for your input; However I think that was proabably a little un called for?

I am clearly not incapable of thinking outside the flexi box - hence why i am asking for your advice/opinions.

If that was the case, i would have simply bought a Bullet.

I have heard good things about the Bullet, however probably down to its popularity.

I have posted this thread to find out what other kites are as good, if not better.

Thanks again for your responses.... keep em coming!

My mate flys several u turns. Before the smart arses jump in, not at once. His 4 mtre u turn oygen is clearly far more efficient than my Blade III 4.9. If you fly in gusty, I would certainly miss the Bullet. My choice at the moment based on what I've been seeing are the U Turns.

Greig, it was a little uncalled for and I thank Fawke for pointing it out.;)

I aint no flexi whore !

Oops Fawkes it looks as tho he's apologised (again)

You asked a pretty specific question about which Bullet you should buy! I think Sparhawk was merely pointing out that to limit yourself to just Flexifoil or even just the Bullet kind of ignores the wider market place and some really great kites.

Most manufacturers now do a low lift high stability buggy traction engine; so, just to get you started:

Ozone Fury - terrific bullet proof entry level kite based on the fab Little Devil - very stable and about perfect for starting out in Buggying and progressing without killing yoursef

Bullet '05 - a much better kite than the previous incarnation, good stable kite with little lift and much better turning and low end grunt

PKD - Buster/Brooza - not flown the Brooza but the Buster is a terrifically priced kite and as steady as a rock in most winds

Of course this may ignore some of the other good budget kites such as the Beamer, Radsail, Firebee and some of the other well know manufactureres entry level/intermediate offerings: Libre Vampir, Peter Lynn Rebble and Ozone Samurai

If you are into tricks then you might like to start looking at the depowerables and if racing is going to be your thing then you can pick up a couple of Razors dead cheap at the moment, or you could try a Yakuza or even wait for the Combat (if you want to be a bit avant gard).

If you really do want to go eccentric then I would definitely go for the NPW on something like 40m lines or even a C-Quad - great fun folding them up.

After last week's regatta at Hoylake I think there are a couple of Skua's for sale and you might like to try a Jo Jo.

Hmm...decisions...decisions...I know lets start another best kite poll/thread just to find out just how long this particular piece of yarn is

Do Airea still make kites.......

FWIW, I think you may find the 5.5 Bullet a bit of a handful in the Autumn/Winter winds - especially in a PL buggy which will limit the ammount of power you can hold. As has been said by others, worth looking beyond Flexifoils. A Libre Vampir/Vampir race in the 3.5 -4.5 range might be more suitable. Purpose-designed for buggying, and less prone to lifting you unexpectedly. Heard only good things about U-turn Oxigens too. Never flown one myself, so can't say much more.

So in your opinion, which is the best bullet (performamce wise) in the range - from what i have heard the 5.5 offers the best compromise....

Not exactly....U-Turn now employ the designer; Ernst Strobl. They make the Helium, Oxigen (Pro), Butane and Nitro. The new Butane is the Airea Raptor 3 in all but name. You can still get the odd Bronto and Raptor second hand.

IMHO the Oxigen is probs the best intermediate kite on the market but hasn't yet got the market share it deserves in the UK. If you head over the channel they're all over the place. I've just invested in some Butanes and early indications are that it's pretty good, fast and stable...we'll see in the long term!

I have a 6m Skua and 7.8 Oxigen for sale on Ebay if you're interested...:o

You could also try the Gin Yoz. Bomb proof build, great stability and amazing traction. They won't match the penetration of the new race kites but they are hard to beat in funky wind.

All the U-turn Kites are sewn up in the Gin factory so you know you are getting quality.

Just to confuse the issue even more by adding another choice:o

Flysurfer ROOKIE 2, Had an absolute blast on ours last week at The HO! My youngest was blatting with the 2m most of the time (In a PL Comp st;) )

Hi there

My favourites are the Advance offroads for buggying. I find the 3.8 probably the best "allrounder". They are stable, very well made and generate hardly any lift at all.

Of course, there is always the Blade for those moments of madness. I have the B2 4.9. I got lofted from my buggy the other week. Funny how there's always a crowd watching when it all goes wrong. :)

U-TURN OXIGEN!!!!!!! The most under rated kites ever, my 4m will keep up with a 4.9 blade and easily pass a 4.5 bullet inland and im guesing it will perform even better on the beach :) this aint just talk either, ask any of the coventry wankas.:D

Samurai get my vote for wind conditions. They are great compared to my old Blade 3.3, and real stable and predicable compared to bullet 04, so you can real throw the buggy and kite around at high speed.
