As i understand the bego 6m is similar in lifet to the 6.6 and i max out at around 15mph i guess. You're at the limit basically when you've got the kite at the zenith and it's nearly lifting you, and you can only play slightly into the power zone. be carefull though of gusts  It does therefore depend largely on your weight, i'm just over 10 st :p

A 20 stone person could fly in wind which developed twice the lift. Though i don't know if windspeed/lift relationship is linear so whether it would be twice the wind i don't know, personally i doubt it, maybe an x squared term in there somewhere.

I would not go out in more than 15mph.

Just want to hear some storys of nutty people!:)

sorry can't help ya there! Got far too sensible now, when i first got the 4m blade tho' i only had that kite and i did scare myself once, but only 'cos even when i got it to the zenith i was being slowly dragged toward the edge of the feild and occasionally lifted off the ground  , managed to land it at side of window before packing up and going home to order a 2m firebee :o

Windspeed->lift is a square relationship... 2x lift is at 1.4x the speed,... You get twice the lift at 14mph as you do at 10mph..

I'll take my Blade1 7.2 out in about 12-14mph (I think)....

yesterday i was flying my blade III 4.9 in about 13-15 mph which i am fairly comfortable with but dont forget that when you have an avereage wind speed of say 15mph which you are just comfortable with, when the wind gusts you will not be comfortable if you know what i mean!!!!

I was flying quite happily until the wind gave a few violent gusts and i couldnt walk it back to the groud peg. I had to get my friend to pull me back and by pulling i mean he was doing a bear hug on my legs, but even then i was lifted straight out of his grasp.

So you do need to be careful. You shouldnt really fly at you max possible speed because if it pics up suddenly.....(fill in the blank)

im looking for some witty answers to that!

cheers, one question, have you ever compared windspeed readings on the ground (or at outstretched arm height) with those at the height of the kite?

Main reason is i've recently started paragliding and i know the max speed of glider but can only measure windspeed at 2m! Deciding when's good to take off can be a bit serious!

Was at Westward Ho! on Sunday, someone had their 6.6 up in speeds gusting in the high 20's earlier in the day.

I did think about it bu thought better of it an waited until it calmed down to 15 gusting low 20's...:D.

Was it with a flexibug, a red crash hat and dark wrap around shades???? If so it was me (check the Avatar I think I was wearing something similar on Sunday :D :D :D

But then again when Richy turned up with that flippin' 9m phantom now that was something else and it was probably touching up to 30 by then (Ahem blade in bag go for the 3.0 radsail)

Also saw this weekend an 8.5 Blade out in 15 - 20mph (Richy again) a 4.9m BIII in 25 - 30 (Mark Berry AKA Mr helicopter after he did 7 airborne 360 in a row at 20 feet air before touching down)

Finally the Dutchman from Rotterdam on the water with a fuel 13m LEI in 30+ (OK not so strange on the water) with a 25 foot air including a 360 somersault and a 360 handle pass (awesome)

Had a top time at the Ho

Frakke :D

Hi,

I have a blade III 6.6m, which I will only take out in 15mph winds or below.

What is the highest wind speed that anyone has gone out in with this kite?

I would like to hear some storys!:D

I remember watching Phatdan, Mark Everitt and some others buggying on the first day at wallop this year with 6.6's. If my memory serves me correct it was about 25mph!! THese guys were just controllng sideways drags like you wouldn't believe. I however managed to OBE 3 times with a 2.5 bullet in the same winds!

Awesome!

you couldn't really miss him! he was BLASTING along, everyone else was dropping to 3m max size he went fully powered up with a 9m phantom!!! that was once he had stopped using his blades!!!! the guy is INSANE!

i have flown my blade 6.6 in some pretty strong winds. Sometimes you cant even walk up wind with the kite. However i only do this on a soft sand beach, to help out with any bad falls. My mate did it on a hard sand beach and ended up concussed and getting air lifted. He didnt even fly very high just went flying forwards and slam. In strong winds you can get some huge floaty jumps 15-20ft no problem, with some help from m8. I know people frown upon this but we have never had an accident doing this. You hold onto the back of flyiers harness and run back with him as he flys the kite into the centre of the wind window. You keep hold of him until the power is almost at max then let go. This usually causes the pilot to go up more than forwards, and 90% of the time floats down, but lighter winds often causes you to fall out the sky. The blade 6.6 is the best recreational kite but also the most dangerous.
