school fads?

we had school ties that changed in shape and fashion from year to year . one year it was tied short and fat about 2 inches long the the next year it was tied the wrong way round and long thin and parallel .

 

we used to wear two tone trousers with monkey boots

 

also anyone have a snorkel jacket ??

I remember DM's and skirts taken in so tight u could hardly walk!!!

 

And crimping and backcombing ur hair to within an inch of ur life so as to try and look like one of the Bananarama girls but normally ended up looking like Boy George instead!!!

 

Edit: Oh and not to forget disco roller boots!!! Dont know what I injured myself on more, them or my friend chopper bike. (At least I had nothing between my legs to rip open on the choppers gear-shift like many boys did!!!)

This has really got me thinking, I seem to remember shouting POLO in the playground but i cannot think what it was about - please tell

it was a guessing game, whoever was on thought of a telly program and said the initials e.g. SS

then everybody else had to run to the other wall (P) then back (O) then again (L) and again (O) then one last time and you shout (POLO!)

 

and said your guess!

SS was a popular one as there were a few options, sesame street, supermarket sweep, ski sunday....

i know it was a long time ago:o but does anyone remember, SEGS, the little metal things that were designed to protect the soles of shoes?

 

Sure do remember segs. And the shoes we were all buying to put them on were slats. Wasnt there also "dinkies" for the toe end of the shoes? Trench coats were also the in thing:o

 

Another fad common in the summer was making black berry splodge!!!!! .....................bet no one else has heard of this one. Its basicaly blackberries in a jam jar all squashed up with a generous helping of sugar. Then we found a fairly straight branch 8 or 9" long, strip off the bark and thats your spoon. Often found eating whilst having a backy on my mates griffter. Glass jar in left hand and stick in mouth held by right hand:eek:

 

I could go on and on here but one more fad i remember was taking the inside and the end out of a biro and using the remains as a pee shooter using bitten off bits of rubber or chewed pieces of paper as amo. Great in the class room!! Come to think about it.......pee shooters. How dangerous were they? Hard pees leaving the said shooter at 50mph bl00dy hurt!

could go on and on here but one more fad i remember was taking the inside and the end out of a biro and using the remains as a pee shooter using bitten off bits of rubber or chewed pieces of paper as amo. Great in the class room!! Come to think about it.......pee shooters. How dangerous were they? Hard pees leaving the said shooter at 50mph bl00dy hurt!

 

Remember that.... and also the "laggy band over the fingers" catapult. Used to fold up bits of paper and then choose you target and fire.

I was only thinking about that yesterday. I once started that fad at my school, there were bits of paper evrywhere untill it got banned and we went onto something else.

 

 

 

I also remember the segs, must have been about 1974. All the cool kids had them and used to slide around the playground on them, I was never one of cool kids

 

I was a bit of a fiend with explosives. Me and mates used to pool our resources and buy lots of bangers which I broke open and converted into one large bomb with an enermous fuse. This was lit and left on a street corner and we would be about 300 yds away when it went off. Also a mixture of weed-killer plus something else (I remember, just not saying here) which was quite ferocious and would burn through the bottom of a tin can.

If you bit into one just right, you'd leave half a bead gripped between your teeth. you could then use the elastic string as a catapult to fire the half bead into the back of one of your classmates heads. lol.

Our school went mad with those for a while. There were bits of sweets eveywhere. LMAO!!!

Yo-yo's were all the craze when I was at school - gotta know the tricks like "around the world", "walk the dog" and "helicopter".

at my school, we had form colours....the base of the tie was navy, and then you had 2 coloured stripes diagonally across it....all the cool kids used to pull a strip or 2 out of the bigger strip of colour!!

 

then they got buggered and had to buy a new tie!! hahaha

we used to snap a paperclip im half and use that . it was quite nasty ..

 

another thing we found was 's--t bricks' . these was bricks from a building site near the school . they was like a foam block that when you stamped on it and crushed it gave off a smell like a stinkbomb !!

 

another weapon of choice was to dismantle an electric ignition cigarette lighter . then use the electrode to give someone a shock .....

I remember we used to do a thing where you held your breath, then someone grabbed you from behind with their fists tight in under your ribcage until you passed out momentarily! Ah those crayzee days of yesteryear.......

 

haha a few mates of mine used to do that 3-4 years ago lol also we used play full contact man hunt in the woods behind my school i remember we chased this guy for ages and when we caught him everyone bundled him and it had the same effect as the pass out thing good times!
