Do you smell that? cap gun smoke, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of caps in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that cap smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end....................... :) the smell of caps....mmmm, that evoked some fond memories. ta MMP, for that. and yep they still sell rolls of caps http://www.sillyjokes.co.uk/wacky/weapons/ammo/paper-caps.html ..........i wonder, just for tradition's sake, if one out of every eight caps in a roll is a dud. :D Quote

freejam Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005 new kids had to go through the Mill - loads of older boys lined up with arms on a wall and the noob had to run through the Mill whilst being booted and whacked funny how you felt proud when it was over - if you cried you got dragged to the Bars next the Bars were iron railings around a basement window - the older boys would then bend your arms back through the bars - looked bloody painful once accepted you were allowed to play Wall-Ball - bunch of boys throwing a tennis ball at a very high gable wall and scrambling to catch it (bit like Eton Fives, I guess) Quote
Acechav Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 We used to wear our ties the wrong way round - i.e. thick end on the right as you put it on so that you'd do a normal tie not and have the thin end hanging as your tie (also as short as you could make it) and have to tuck yards of the thick end into your shirt to keep it out of the way. Then there was being tied to a chair, stripped to the waist and carried up on stage during lunchtime on your 18th birthday - or was that just my school? Hi Hope i'm not breaking any rules posting after so long, just as i've seen the Forum before and never got round to joining. Seeing the post's about "School Fad's" convinced me to join. I recall this tie thing very well too b.t.w Eifon. Very trendy! Quote

HeelsideJack Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Space Dust Its making a comeback in restaurants, believe it or not. What a sherman tank! I really miss those flavoured ices in the shape of a pyramid - I think one was called Raz. Also, marbles and jacks were big - Marbles had their own mini-economy, with one tom-bowler worth ten ordinary marbles, and a pee-wee in good nick worth two tom-bowlers. Quote
JDC Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Not so much fads... but if I think back to first year at secondary school I can remember.... discussing red dwarf on the bus to work (first series)... leggin it to the chippy for a chip balm every lunch break... garbage pail kids cards... and creepy stories about this fella - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akinwale_Arobieke Quote

I think this was more as a mark of respect to wearing it the thin way/side showing. Cos obviously you'd of been dissed for eternity wearing it as Eifon said but showing the proper part as well. Quote

smoo Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 We had our own version of the matchheads inbetween 2 bolts, empty .22 cartridges from the shooting gallery on the pier. Fill them up, nip the end with pliers and whack with a hammer A bit of name dropping here, it was at Neil Godbolds (kite instructor) house that I deafened myself with a particulary loud one. My ears rang so much I remember being absolutley terrified I had done permanent damage Quote
foz.foz Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Burning holes in school ties with a magnifying glass and the odd ant or two if you could find one. Brown plasticine around the toilet bowl and from a distance.......(got detention for that one) fruit salads and black jacks for half a pennie sherbert fountains top trumps... plus a few more which now a days would have me banged up:eek: Quote
abbe89 Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 at my school, we had form colours....the base of the tie was navy, and then you had 2 coloured stripes diagonally across it....all the cool kids used to pull a strip or 2 out of the bigger strip of colour!! then they got buggered and had to buy a new tie!! hahaha Quote
