TallPaul Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Good result guys. Well done for all the hard work.. Quote
Goku Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Whilst this is a success for us and well done to the guys who managed to negotiate this, I can't help feeling that it's yet another way of making money from joe public. Now they have started charging for it's use, I wonder how many other parks will follow suit? Quote
Badger Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 It is the same price as a fishing permit for the same park. It covers admin costs (leaflets, guides, permit, signs etc), and maintenance (mostly grass mowing) of the four areas now allocated for kite flying. I don't think that it is a bad deal at all really @ 34p/week ? Steve. Quote

Sky costs as little as 49p a day but I don't want that either My point was being charged to use a public place and the knock on effect it may have when other parks want to charge as well Quote
JellyFish Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 I think it mad you have to pay to fly your kite !!!! i'll tell you what, i'll let you lot come and use my Public park to fly you kites! I'll only charge you £10 and you dont need bloody insurance!!! Quote

I'll only charge you £10 and you dont need bloody insurance!!!How much room have you got for Buggying - I'm interested to know about other suitable sites and didn't know there was a suitable site in Hayes. I can't believe that there is so much fuss about less than 5p/day? The local flyers (myself included) fought hard for you guys to get back a top flying site in London, and all you do is moan about a few pence. The admin costs do have to be covered. It would have been much easier for the park (and they would have prefered) to just say a flat NO. Steve. Quote
Tobz Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Ignore the complainers Steve. They've either got air between their heads or haven't been in this game for long (and are unlikely to be in it for much longer!). Once again, people whinge about the matter of a few quid when at the same time they spend literally £100s on kit.... And as for 'paying to use a public space' - organised rugby clubs and football teams also pay ground maintenance fees to use public spaces too. The point is to get organised to protect what you love if there's no other route to take. Congrats to all involved in what looks like an excellent compromise. Quote
trebor Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Well said Tobz - initiatives like this are going to be the only way to carry the sport forward, and could hopefully be a good blueprint to setting up recognised sites where our specific needs are catered for and encouraged rather than denied. Well done to all involved Quote
Badger Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Important - Richmond Park Flyers Please remember that the Richmond Park Polo Field (Rugby Pitches) will be out of bounds for all Kite Flying from the last day of February, right through to 1st September. The alternative Spankers Hill area is available for traction. The ground is a bit more lumpy than the Polo Field, but still should be fine for buggies though perhaps a little rougher for boards. Hopefully it will be more regularly maintained (mown / rolled) over the Summer? Steve. Quote
payneib Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Fantastic intiative guys-saw the artical in PKM. which insurance do you need? The only question i have as far as "acces" goes is if you've got the right insurance, is it ok to show up and "pay and play"? Think there was something about getting permit by showing insurance details-can you just see a little man in a hut with your cash or is it a send off, wait three weeks, get bored, give up afair? nice to hear its not completly closed off in the summer congrates.
