Tune in to the next episode wherein her dog runs off and in an unfortunate and ironic turn of events while in chase suffers blunt trauma to the head by an out of control jugglying unicyclist prompting outrage from incredulous circus performers everywhere.

hmm...

"I cant change course..." - of course you can you muppet...

the jumps he does do shows him flying forwards however far he does, not once in a straight line... but alas the last one does :p

No-one in their right mind would dump a kite like that on the floor (no1 i know at least) would wrestle it to the floor..

Would have to be a blade flyer :p

He would have gone downwind loads if he had jumped when looking as overpowered as he did so he wouldnt have hit them, also he coulda just looped the kite infront of himself to go down wind although it would probs have been a bit over the top

Everyone that watches that program knows it's contrived. Some kids playing in a skip/on a hill with a mountain bike, you just know that there'll be some bizarre series of events that conspire to create an accident.

Realisticly boarders are very aware of their surroundings and can actually stop pretty quickly if needed, either by powerslide or just by dropping the kite on the safety. Not that the general public know that.

The worst realistic case with landboarding would be a collision with another person, but even then that is unlikely to result in fatal injuries. We know from car statistics that a child hit at 30mph is 80% likely to live, and most boarders average, what, 10-15mph, are somewhat softer than the front of a car and are on a surface softer than tarmac.

The only way serious injury could occur from collision (as portrayed in this case) is the contrived sequence of events where the boarder doesn't stop or change course, and jumps at the person in his path, which simply isn't realistic.

The factors to consider are:

-the public are aware that plots are quite contrived for this program

-the public is not aware that this is an unrealistic portrayal of what could happen

The second point is why there's a problem, because there is little public prior knowledge to allow dismissal of the plot as fictional/contrived (like there would be with any better known sport). This is rather unfair, to say the least, as it may well lead to a greater perceived risk with regard to what we do.

I can't believe there is so much interest in pap like casualty. Everyone knows you don't watch tv on a saturday night if you have more than one brain cell! :D

I don't watch it, you don't watch it...but it is the second most watched programme on BBC after Eastenders.

Just spoke to my boss to ask if he saw it, as i've not seen it and ask what he thought about it, and he said it never gave any bad impression on the sport what so ever to him.

He said it came across as an acident nothing more or less, and was clear that the little boy was at fault by coming into the marked area.

I think maybe we are far to bias to our sport and what other people think about it, by always thinking the worse... thats why i asked for someone outside of the sport for there honest opinion of how it came across.

EDIT: remember there is no such thing as bad publicity :D

Sorry have to disagree there :)

If that was the case, why do we get so many bans?

Yes the littel boy went into the area, BUT having/saying things like, "I can not turn" shows we are not in control? When we are!!

reffences to "death defiying sports" etc etc.

Also which is it easy toget rid of? the small % of kiters on a beach or the 99.999999% of non kiters you have on a beach? Irrespective as to who is in the right?

If we get labled as dangerous, then they will ban us, simple.

Remeber it is not the thousands of people who saw it and saw nothing worng with it we have to worry about, it is the 1/2/5 people that thought it was dangerouse and complained?

After all how many complaints get made to ban us from sites anyway?

Port meadow in Oxford was just one, and they did not even substanciate it :(

Besides, is it not worth complaining if they protrayed something incorrectly, even if it it has no actual effect on what we do? Because even if it did not make us look bad (which IMHO it did)surely that is not enough, wneed to make ourselves look GOOD :D

What was said? Any idea of 'what they went against' were they told not to do this or something like that?

These are the people that totally went against what their researchers said in the name of entertainment
