i doubt that there is anyway in hell that the building mangments co. will let any body go up and get the kite. if there was an accident the insurance would be crazy. the only way they could let some one up ther eis if it were their won trained staff or a company which specialises in the likes.

Hi ok,heres what we have got.

A week last Friday some one had a bit of a mess up and dropped their kite on the roof of the Bus Station, on advise teh chap asked teh Bus Company if he coudl go up and get it and they said NO.

Reasons given was it was asbestos? Though that is not a problem unless irt is invoolved in fire or becomes a dust? (NB they did not have an asbestos management folder anyway

BUT they said they had some workmen in the following week who would be up there anyway, who woudl deal with it.

A week later it was still there, so I managed to convice a couple of chaps from work it would be a good training exercise (ie no charge), I cleared it with teh Duty manager, who was not even awre there was a kite up there!! Sounds like the are not to concerned as it is stuck there causing no problems etc??

Anyway of we went with the Hydralic Platform. Problem being the building is big and the only side we could get to had permenat obstructions, so we could not get close enough with the HP to physically touch/reach it. Got with in 8 metres :(

So we tried to us the height of the HP to lift it clear. Problem. The roof is not asbestos, but Asbestolux (safer) but not very strong. It is fitted to teh beams using big bolts, which stcik up about 2-3 inches, just right for the entire bridle to get caught on, but also for the 4x20m+ of lines to get caught on.

Result, trying to clear the lines from bolts ended up with two broken lines (and do not hold out much more for the condition of the others) and a kite that is still firmly fixed to the roof.

Action? Only way I can see round it is to get onto the roof, now IMHO if you stuck to the beams (whcih are quite far apart) you shoudl be fine, but odds on you may need crawling boards. Then it would just be a case of un hooking the bridle and rolling kite up as you go (no training needed etc).

Biggest hurdl will be getting teh Bus Company to say yes, as they are concered with the safety of teh roof, and the factit is asbestos, sofearful of liability etc?

If you can get within 8ft and this chap doesn't mind not getting his kite back, then you could melt it to the roof with a paraffin flame thrower (obviously take a fire extinguisher or two as well). At least it won't blow away then?

Are the joists steel and the roof unpainted?

I'm gonna suggest that taking a torch to anything even remotely related to asbestos is a baaaad idea :D

Poor dude loosing his Frenzy!

Hope you guys get it sorted!

p.s All be wary of any 'too cheap to be true' 12m Frenzys for sale on Ebay in the next few days - "12m Frenzy for sale (kite only) slight bridle stretch..."... ;-)

im guessing ppl think its a frenzy cos kitin mad had a pop at me cos i dissed his arc so what kite is it sumbody please clear it up:D

The Bus Company initialy said that they had some roof contractors going up there last week, but as yet that hasnt materialised. Tbh i wouldnt want to try and untangle a 12m Frenzy from a roof in this wind (gusting 25 up here today).

The clues are all there!

An arc probably wouldn't have tangled in the first place, what with lack of bridles an' all.

My understaning was he wiped out on a small jump, grabbed the bar again which had spun 180' so went into a big power loop. At which point he went flying across the grass very fast.

We've all been there when a kite is power looped, not much you can do except hold on and watch that 25m+ "menatl" safety zone dissapear rather quickly.

Yes he may have been a tad close in the first place?? But result was that after the power loop, or rather during it, he covered enough ground so that the kite flew on to the roof, rather than luffed or collapsed?

Yes other kites may not have got caught up so easily, but then again with other kites he would not have been having any fun :D lol

But seriously, all kites have their down sides, you just have to decide which ones you can live with PLUS, make sure that you fly in a manner/location that will allow for any of these?

Lets try an dlearn from his mistake, rather than having to make them ourselves to learn by?

Best of luck, Jon

Good point spooky - if you're learning to jump, do it in the middle of the field and not at the end of a run! :D

Anyway, I'll likely be up there this afternoon after work so I'll see what state it's in (if it's still there).
