funkster Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 This is not kite related but i have been flashed by the rozzers doing 74 in a 50 zone:mad: . Whats gonna happen to me....i wanna be able to kite...not stare out of my cell looking at everbody else having fun. Although somebody could sneak a blade in and then i can breakout by jumping the perimeter fence:D . I thought somebody on this forum may have had a similar experience and can pass there experience onto me. The ticket came through the normal post...is it worth me ignoring it and blaming the royal mail for non delivery (our postal service is sh**te) if they chase it up. Please, what are your thoughts?? daveswan Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 i am almost 100% that if you dont sign the form they cant do **** so you fill it in send it off but dont sign it If you dont sign it they can not proceed And there is no law to make you but there is a law thats says you have to fill it in! Good Luck Quote
Batho_777 Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 Funkster, Was this a fixed roadside camera that flashed as you passed. If so:- Are you the only person insured on the car? If not, try the don't know who was driving stance. They will investigate but if they can't prove who was driving with a photo you may get away with it. Woman who i work with got away with this on a large journey with hubby. They said they shared the driving and didn't know who was driving at that point. Result was no points or fine! Long shot but worth a go. Good luck. Steve Quote
blondie Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 if you don't send the form in they can take you to court and then you are in danger of getting a much bigger fine :-( If you say you don't know who was driving I think they now do the registered owner of the car saying it's up to you as the owner of the car to know who is driving it at any time. Best bet is pay the fine and take the points :-( Oh and dont speed any more well not past cameras anyway Quote
Lovekylie Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 it's 3 points and £60 fine ,son just got one on the m6 He was going 85 not 70 Quote
AndySmith Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 I thought there was now something significant about 20mph over the set limited that meant an immeadiate ban was on the cards. From a solicitors site... after a quick search Speeding is the most common driving offence and in the news because of the increasing use of speed cameras. Usually and provided you do not have previous penalty points endorsed on your licence, a speed of up to 10mph over the speed limit will result in three penalty points which can be dealt with as a fixed penalty without the case going to Court. A speed of between 10mph and 20mph above the speed limit may result in four to six penalty points. If you are caught going more than 20mph over the speed limit, most Magistrates Courts will want to consider disqualification and the case will have to go to Court. If you are only a few mph over this cut off (and have no previous endorsements), the disqualification will be for one to three weeks. The faster you are going (particularly doing more than 100mph on the motorway) - the longer the disqualification. Feel free to try the get outs offered above - in general they lead to harsher penalties. Just hope thats at present your licence is clean. Quote
Brewy Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 You shouldn't get hammered too hard - I got done for 93.5 in a 60 on my mortorbike, now that is instant ban territory (30 mph over speed limit)! I only got 6 points and a 250quid fine, but I did have to go in front of the beak and plead my case. Take the rap on the knuckles and put it down to experience! Quote

funkster Posted July 7, 2005 Author Report Posted July 7, 2005 Cheers for all your replies, i think i may just pay the fine and have the points....points means prizes after all :D !!. I'm hoping the thread above about being banned is not true...if thats the case then i will ignore the ticket and blame royal mail if they catch up with me. Quote
freejam Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 So that's a lesson learnt then - innit? Don't be so heavy footed - especially through E Sussex if you're ever down this way - I've seen too many school kids killed to have any sympathy with your plight. Quote

Pay up. At that speed you probably realized you were way over the limit. You did wrong, got caught, so take your medicine like a man. This non-kiting message should have been posted in the bar zone. You probably would have got some additonal advice there on what to do. Sand-Yeti Quote
Jangla Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 Despite traffic law stating that there should be a very precise scale to determine punishment, it's blatently not the case. You may get lucky and get a slap and a fine of around 300 quid. You may get your license taken off you for a while. It's the luck of the draw mate. Quote

Dibz Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 whatever happens, i suggest you stand up and take your punishment, you were speeding, you got caught, trying to palm it off on 'i don't know who was driving' or 'it got lost in the post' will only make things worse. as was previously mentioned, if you try and mess the police about now, they just slap the fine/points on the registered keeper of the vehicle or main driver on the insurance (i don't know which it is). And they slap the max fine they can. If you own up and are humble about it, you are more likely to receive some leniency. Quote

Sand-Yeti I gotta say, I agree with Sand Yeti, if you don't want points and a fine don't speed. (Thats not to say I have never done any speeding ) Quote
Skyscraper Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 Anybody got any experience of speeding fines on the continent? I reckon I got done by a traffic radar (though not stopped) last weekend in France. Should I be expecting a nice letter from the French police making me an offer I won't understand? Quote

beamerboy36 Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 You'll probably have to go to court but it'll probably be 5 points and a fine. A colleague of mine was caught doing 90+ in a 60 and got 5 points!! So don't worry too much:) Quote

FO Kite Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 Got caught doing 52 in a 30 zone on the little road that leads from Porthmadog to Black Rock Sands.......I was slowing down for the speed humps .Still have no idea where the 30 zone actually started. I phoned up the section that deals with the fines, which I think now has very little to do with the police and was told by a very pleasant young lady exactly whta the fine would be and what points would be added to my licence. She had a scale that she used to calculate the fine. 3 points and £ 60 fine. Very anoid and quite relieved at the same time.....no getting away with it I was doing 52 in a 30 limit......I was in the wrong!! Phone up, find out and then pay up. Learn the lesson and drive within the law. (Aren't there a lot of peeps still using mobile phones these days) F/O Kite Quote
