connecting handles together

I got myself a waist harness, so now i want to connect my handles together.

 

what is a good length and what is best to use (heavy rope) or do you need a special type of rope

i use differant lenghts for differant kites, but thats just me. i use B&Q and buy a few meters of 8mm rope, white and green i think it is, i also use the 8mm tubing. when cutting it add a little bit and roll it up nice and neat i add about 9inch to every meter,hehe, the check out dont unroll it to measure it.lol. naughty arnt i.lol
