Marcus Edwards Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Constructive stuff only please Mell and team got us FW1 (gawd bless em) but I am sure they would welcome our ideas and thoughts of how to make the next one better. Loos need sorting out (there is a thread covering this) The price for children seemed high. Do I need to mention the crazy frog Quote
jbrown7911 Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Dont invite feast your eyes back Get a veggy stall and can coffee man bring sweetners. Quote
Cliffie Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 More food stalls and more traders for those no wind days (ducks for cover as existing traders throw rocks) Quote
marman Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 definately a veggie stall. maybe some organised events if theres no wind? or when there is wind have a mini comp for those who want to. make sure water doesnt run out Quote
muffy Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Mini comps. would be a good idea. Boarding and Buggy freestyle or something. I'll be a judge (not good enough to enter yet ). Quote
PHLI72 Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 More entertainment in the beer tent:) . Theres only so much fun you can have watching someone play jenga. The film fest was excelent (even if, like 2/3 of the tent it was all AAF), but we need something for the other evenings, even if its just a mix playing in the background (better than nowt at all). Also, If there is a "No cars on the grass" rule again, enforce it a little more. We trundled all our gear to and from the perri track, and i mean ALL of it, The trailer tent is not light LOL, only for other folks to just drive straight on, set up and park next to their tents:( Personaly i didnt have any problems with the food retailers (didnt use them, took/cooked our own) and the loo's where always fine when i went to use them (good timing i guess) Other than these small niggles , i can't think of any other ways to improve what was a fantastic weekend . anna1599968635 Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Dont invite feast your eyes back Get a veggy stall and can coffee man bring sweetners. how dare you ...lol .....say dont invite fest your eyes back !!!!! they were the only food i wanted to eat as i hate burgers etc!!!! Quote
paseawright Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Put the signage back round the traction area to try and stop people wandering through it, sitting in the middle or even cycling across! Get a big board of rules made up clearly marking the zones in an obvious place so those not familier with Wallop have an idea what is going on. -- Paul Quote
tiny_clanger Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 welll, if you get rid of FyE, replace it with something that serves dairy free food, otherwise there would only be pancakes, doughnuts and i guess (but I didnt go over there, so i dont know) buttery baguettes. Some kind of way for beginners to identify themselves, like a coloured ribbon or something Quote
marman Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 On the Beer tent staus, next time have a bigger one and more chairs, so mainly wobbley people having to stand out side watch through the windows lol. comps as said earlier would be great, also a set up point for cami's so can capture all the footage. Quote
Marky G Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 yeah comp would be good. i thought there was gonna be a stacking comp or summit. i was lookin forward to seeing that but the biggest stack i saw was 4 10's. M Quote
rasga Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 On the Beer tent staus, next time have a bigger one You realise that the beer tent this year was 4X the size of previous years, lol Oh and as well as having entertainment etc, the film fest meant less beer was drunk...so it had to be tipped away:( Quote
Mell1599968579 Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Food There is a good mix of retailers although the veggie option may be an option but would they make enough money to warrant their prescense? Retailers Originally MW was more of a public event and having too many traders would slim down the small amount of business that is carried out. The traders are there mostly for the public (minimal) and the odd spare, to invite more would diminish any sales that they had and then make it not worth their while. In the main the traders who attend are members too. Entertainment This is an interesting one. Usually I have a few more ideas and things but I must admit I was knackered (honest). However because of the duration of the film show (2hrs) the takings on the bar were down to the tune of 1,500 pounds even though the beer tent was heaving!! Next time I think we shall put the screen at the end to allow more people in and also limit the number of films to the best 6 submitted and then vote on those. That way it will take only 30 mins or so. As for bands etc and music. Music is fine providing that people can communicate. Over the 10 years we have been doing events we have found that if the entertainment replaces conversation or becomes a major distraction then either people wander off and drink in their own tents or beer isnt sold. It is a fine line and perhaps a bit more can be done that encompasses the above. Information Everybody who wanted to buggy or board had to go through the registration tent or had already been sent the information leaflets. This or us at the tent explained the areas available and the basic rules. If you play the percentages game you will see that as more people attend there will always be a small percentage of people who seem to do 'their own thing', it happens. This is the same for parking etc. Most people were informed of the parking rules and where we were informed we ensured that vehicles were removed. There should be no issue with pointing out to somebody that they should not park on the grass. If there is an issue I am sure that we would be able to sort it out so next time please let us know. Boards etc. Great idea and next time hopefully we may have something. Many more flags were made this year and were still being put together the night before the event. Whilst some of the things we did were carried on from previous years there were many new things that we introduced too and as such it was all completed at the last minute. Now we know what is to be done and what worked we should be able to add to what was already a very successful event. We will be publishing a summery of the costs/income for the event and whilst we expected to make a loss it wasnt quite as bad as we thought. I personally thought that the beer/lager/cider was a good price and it is one of the areas that usually pays for the event. It would be a shame if we had to increase beer costs to make the money to cover the entertainment which then would reduce sales of beer (maybe) and so on. A good price keeps the tent full, which I why I was in there Mell Quote
littlemisssammy Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Did I hear right on the Friday night (or maybe I was distracted by the bra!!!) that you guys made a 6K loss??? Personally I would be happy to pay up to 40 quid for the weekend, providing there was some more entertainment in the evenings. Bands would be great but even just a DJ would suffice. If you increased ticket prices im sure the majority of people would still come and if you make a bit of profit or break even, it surely helps to secure the event for the future? Quote
hornsea flyer Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 LIVE WEBCAM.......so people who are there can watch it:D Quote
Guest Nevermind Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 If u r there y would u wnt to watch it??? Also Flexi dont brand it just call it Cloudy Wallop 2 Craig Quote
andy mcmahon Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 One or two small suggestion how about asking people not to set up right at the edge of the field ie along the long grass say 3 meters in so that it is easier to wheel buggys down to the less busy end of the field without going into the long grass or wheeling buggys over everyone’s lines. I feel this would still be a good idea even when the long grass is cut. The second would be for some form of exits from the camping areas to enable buggys out of the camp site. Just food for thought. Apart from that can’t fault it. Quote
Skud_Mark Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Top as it was with the exception of points raised in other threads! As for Feast Your Eyes??? What's the problem? They are they only trader there that can give anyone too lazy to cook for themselves a decent meal! The pancakes were as lush as ever, possibly better but Walters Red Curry is great and it would be sad not to see them there! Quote
Simon Bailey Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 With not attending i feel a little hypocritical in suggesting that it's prob worth having a word with the X-Zone guys. The beer tent last october was heaving, i believe they ran out of some of the drink!! They had live music and a DJ (please no reminders of Rich Brazier pole dancing!!), as well as films. All in all a top do Quote
KiteBoyStu Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 I went to Wallop 05 and thought it was all fine really except for one thing - there were no private trader stalls as in previous years. This is where real bargains (second hand and new) could be found. It was great mooching around the car-boot sale stylie stalls the last time i went and i got some really good stuff. We (my team) all agreed that this year there was nothing there to buy that we didn't already have. That's my 2 pence spent, Stu Quote
thegman89 Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 I think an area marked off for beginners would be good, they would be able to feel more confident and not have to worry about the more experienced people with bigger kites. Something to do when there is no wind would be good, we got VERY bored on the sunday. A biigger variety of food and stalls would be good. Quote
marman Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 You realise that the beer tent this year was 4X the size of previous years, lol Oh and as well as having entertainment etc, the film fest meant less beer was drunk...so it had to be tipped away:( By God no Quote
The BFG Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Had a great time at FW1 Improvements mmmmmmmm the area that was set aside for static flying was a little dangerous later in the day. Memebers of the public arrived with their one lined butterfly kites somewhat unaware of the safety issues that need to be observed with the power kites. I undersatnd that this area was under the control of the Stunt Kite guys but it needed some control as little kids (and their parents) who were there to have a great time as we were, tended to wonder around it, in what could be a dangerous area? So an area for static flying of Multi lined power kites maybe needed? See below As for areas for the less experienced flyers, the far end of the field (as far away from the camping area as possible) was almost empty on saturday pm! As I'm still very much a newbie to this fantastic pastime of ours and I was a bit worried about the numbers of general public in the static area I went down to the far end of the field and pretty much had it to myself:) , but the traction area was almost empty down there and maybe could be used for the beginers??? Also It was down wind from the music so had a great afternoon flying to music with no others around to worry about/crash into;) Thanks to all the FW1 team for a great weekend:D Quote
Marcus Edwards Posted June 7, 2005 Author Report Posted June 7, 2005 By God no Conflicting stories here me thinks - Larger and cider ran out on Saturday and there were announcements on Monday afternoon that the beer was down to £1 a pint to finish it up! If the event hinges on the beer tents takings it seems to me there is still something major that needs to be done to fund the event. Is this a Beer or a kite festival? Don't like the idea of a beginners area we should be free to mix with all skill levels. A beginners lepper collony down the far end seems a bit off. Quote
