My friend is after a new board and was after some advice. He is going upwind and doing small jumps. He ways 85kg.

Can anyone advise on which of these boards or any others to go for:

  • Takoon 128 x 37
  • Lightwave Freestyle 135 or 125
  • North Jamie pro M or L

Thanks in advance,

I will be interested in this thread as I have been looking at the north jaime pro large and the litewave freestyle 125 for myself and I am 85kg too. I have also been looking at the cyclone flx 130 which recieved good reviews in kitesurf magazine, might be worth your mate looking at them too.

i have a north jaime pro S but it is 2004 when the option were only S and L, so its not as short as the new S.

i weigh 85ish (13 stone) about 6-2 and go upwind with small jumps..... how convenient!!

i learned on a sx141 before losing it after a line snap and 40min swim.

anyway, i have very little experience of any other boards i'm afraid so i can't compare boards but i can say that if i was buying again i would not go as short as the jaime pro s. i think it is 128 by about 37.5 (feel free to correct me) which is around the same as the new M i think?

pros: super flexy: way prefer it to the sx which was super stiff. makes chop much more manageable. power: i never really had a problem going upwind with the sx (except chop as it was stiff) but the jaime flys upwind as can hold noticeably more power before it starts to skip out.... but remember i am at the stage that i get better every time i go out, so perhaps its me!

cons: landings: tricky on a short board. easier on the 141, but rotations, grabs etc much easier on the jaime so in the long run probably preferable. stability: i do go over the front a lot when dealing with waves. more so than when on the 141, but i am getting better with it.

in terms of how much wind, i can ride it in about 11 knots with my 16m spitfire. i reckon this is pretty similar to the 141... perhaps i'm wrong.

hope this helps. my ideal would be to have tried 4-5 boards in one session. since you about to spend 4-500 quid a shop should let you do this. had i done this i reckon i would have gone for 130-135 and flexy. instead i bought 2nd hand so only 250 quid.

every time i go out i like the board more, but the first few sessions were a bit of a pain in the arse. i now love it though. at the end of the day you will be fine with any of the boards you mention and you will learn to deal with its charachteristics.... so make sure you think it looks cool as that is clearly the most important thing!!!!????!!!

my 2p's, i expect you will get more comparitive answers from others.

Hello,

In first place i advize you to see the new Flexifoil AHPromodel2005.

I already had the Jaime04 and the Jaime05 M Boards, the boards are good but the new AHPromodel it´s far more better, i have one already, simply try and you will find out for your self, very smooth, carves very well, soft landings and easy blind landings.

Good winds
