Paul Smith Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Shame, but you have a season of flying before you go!! seriously doubt i'm gonna have time. Too many things to sort like decorating flat, selling flat and getting everything shipped out:eek: Quote
Paul Smith Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Just wondered if you might be up for a week in NI? when???? Paul Oh, and if anyone wants a buggy i may well be selling mine before i go:( Quote
8015 Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Hmm, Flydad is planning a NI trip in September, wouldn't be the 17-22nd would it? Looks like you might be getting a special invite Paul! (Better get some practice in). JIM Quote
Bigal Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Sup guys. Remember that guy who broke their leg on the west sands last December???????? Well that was me and I'm just letting you all know that I have pretty much fully recovered and thinking about buying another kite. I foolishly sold all my gear thinking I would never fly again and I'm now regretting it. Quote

(Better get some practice in). JIM LOL only chaseing up possibilities, I knew YOU wouldn't be interested :D or are you a water babe that week? catch you later Tom Quote
8015 Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 So are you managing Team Scotland then Tom? Do we need someone to endorse our licenses as international for FISLY to let us enter? Good point, I've taken my test and paid my money, but as yet still no physical license - best have a word with my friendly class 8 sailing master..... Really ought to get it sorted before Ainsdale, I think John and Rich must be suspicious that I keep referring them to the aforementioned sailing master at every PKA event! I'll remember to allocate some time off for it in case I make the team! JIM Quote
flydad Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 So are you managing Team Scotland then Tom? No where near that stage yet Jim, btw I have trouble managing myself these days:) Do we need someone to endorse our licenses as international for FISLY to let us enter? As far as I am aware the classifications for Class 8 are at the disscretion of the issuing country, I guess you need to enquire as yours is a BFSLYC issue Its only been mentioned by a few people at the moment, as to the possibility of a Scotland entry but as they say 'watch this space' or maybe elsewhere too I'll remember to allocate some time off for it in case I make the team! JIM could be a wise move Quote
bug Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 As some of you know I work for glosgow City Council and I have been approached to consider having a kite festival in Glasgow next year would anybody be interested. I have had words with some retailers and they are happy to assist in organising a festival possibly in bella Park. Would anybody out there be willing to give me some support in getting this to happen!! This will give me a good tool to work with to progress with the organisation of such an event, and obtain some finance to host such an event. I await your ideas etc. BUG Quote

As a static venue along with the big single liners and stunt displays it could be a possibility so long as you can get the wind to suit. Mind you if your with GCC maybe you could orchestrate a severe tree pruining excersise, down to about 6 foot high would be good Quote
kel Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 How about strathclyde country park - I remember T in the park was there one year? Quote
8015 Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Bug, ask Chisp about putting a 13m Guerilla above the treeline at Bellahouston, it's not a nice story! Strathy might be OK but as I recall the tree free bit is miles away up one end. Drumpelier would be good out of Footy/Rugby season - they have loads of space but ruin it with pitches and goalposts.... Same goes for St James' - technically it is legal to fly under 30m there but that would be restrictive for the single liners and the proximity to the airport is an issue even if it is technically legal. bug Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Fly Dad, the tree is a no no as I am one of the Arboricultral Officers, I will look into it and hope to find somewhere. Quote
flydad Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Fly Dad, the tree is a no no as I am one of the Arboricultral Officers, I will look into it and hope to find somewhere. Whoops! are you sure just an itsy-bitsy 94 foot off the top wouldn't help their future growth? Quote
Brother Dave Posted June 10, 2005 Author Report Posted June 10, 2005 Fly Dad, the tree is a no no as I am one of the Arboricultral Officers, I will look into it and hope to find somewhere. Does this event have to be in Glasgow? Cos was thinking about Stirling Road Park as its more central ...........dont know Quote
bug Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Fly dad, you are talking about 100% pruning, I would be hung drawn and quartered if I allowed that, but it is not in my part of the city, whey. Still looking into it. Quote
8015 Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Extreme Pollarding Bug, you know it makes sense! Come to think of it, Coppicing is extreme pollarding, get them down to ground level , it will only make them stronger (and straighter) JIM Quote
bug Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 Coppicing, sustainable source of green bio-diversity enhancing material for heating, exceptional in carbon sequestration, retaining the habitat, verdant/sylvan characteristics of the area. Some how I do not think it would go down very well with the public and the Council. Quote
