Hi, I am wondering if people can help me..

I have been Kiteboarding for about 2 and a half years now and go out when I can ( which seems to be never at the moment cos its always dark after work:( )

Anyway - I am keen to ride toeside but never really get very far with it.

I am currently flying a 5.5 m2 Elliot kite which does the job for me for now. However it seems when I go toeside like i'm trying to fly the kite with my back to it. I am currently using handles. I guess it would be easier with a bar, but are there any Toeside / Handle tips I should know about?

Cheers for you help!

yeah, just make sure you got anough power and put loads of wight on your back foot, and lean more than you think you should.

feels weird at first but if you try and straighton up you know why you gotta lean!!

I always find it easier when I'm well powered and moving at speed - with more power in the kite you can really hang off the board.

I know thats with a bar but the same would apply on handles with a harness. Are you using a harness??

No - I'm generally not on a harness, I do have one though, I suppose this might be a good time to use it ;) - do you think it makes much odds?

I see what you mean by leaning over. And by looking at that picture there is a lot of twisting in the hips. I think I had it all wrong in my head. Sort of imagining it exactly 180 from normal riding!

Very helpful though - cheers for everyone's help

Turn the board so that the board is rolling directly downwind towards the kite. After a brief moment of being pulled directly towards the kite simply put pressure on your toes and bear off away from the kite on toe-side. Then work a little upwind with your board by edging (weighting) your toes. Riding toeside feels a little vulnerable at first so make sure that you have a good level field or beach with no potholes. Also, don't overweight your front foot. Toe-side is not very hard if you go into it from boarding directly downwind (towards the kite). First one I did was by mistake. Hope that helps? Ted

I only found out what toeside mean't after i'd been doing it for a while!!! Do you ride goofy? I'm wondering if us goofy people find it eaiesr than "normal" riders (goofys best!) It's the only way i can go back after a nice long heelside ride as i can't ride fakey at all.

I usually ride Goofy with Snowboards, Wakeboards etc, its weird It doesn't seem to make much odds to me on a kite though. - But then who am I? - I can't even ride toeside!

Anyway - cheers for help - I will try all of that next time i'm out!

your just odd i think! i cant ride goofy to save my life downhill, but as monkeyboy says, doesnt seem to make any odds whenever ive kited with a four wheeler. when your downhillin you turn your body and face the direction your going more than when your kiting, maybe thats the difference?! cant ride a surfer switch with a kite but thats a different animal to a go-slo! its directional so you couldnt even if you wanted too (without getting off and turning round!).

when i learned toeside, i pointed the board 45-90 degrees downwind and started off gently, easing it more upwind as i went. once you know what your supposed to be doing, its quite easy to learn how to get in and out and how to gain a fair bit of ground upwind. just try it, it really isnt hard!

AHHHHHHHHHH, my head is battered, I thought i understood what you were all talking about, now I know i was mistaken.

Toeside ? how do you get your back to the kite without physically stopping and turning around ?

I think i am going to have to get somebody to show me.
