lazarus Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Ok, message to all kiters at leeds uni - we're going to try and set up an luu kite society. Not quite sure how it will work out, but its worth a try. It will have to be carefully thought out - we will obviously need to get people kiting safely. If anyones interested in getting involved let us know - the more people we get who already know about kiting the better. We're having a meeting tonight, then if anyone else is interested we can have another one soon. Siz I'd love to join in but i think my uni days are over from what i recall most uni's will turf you off site if you aren't an inmate there. Quote
Lovekylie Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Is anybody going to Roundhay on satruday:) Quote
lazarus Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Is anybody going to Roundhay on satruday:) might take a run up there later on. wind is looking pretty poor though. Quote
Caramboo Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 I'm all geared up for a day's flying today and there seems to be zilch wind. XC saying a whopping 3mph at 11am. Nice, not. It looks more promising for tomorrow though so I reckon I'll be coming to Roundhay. Are any parkies going to rant at me for boarding? Quote

I'd try and stay away from the cream coloured bock of flats at the far side of the field if you're flying any thing other than static, one sir james savil lives in there and aparently calls the rangers if he seen people on boards or buggies. aparently you aren't allowed anything with more than 2 wheels on the field, though i've never been chased. if the weather is good i'll pop up, what time are you thinking of getting there? Quote
kit Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Tom - thanks for helping me get untangled last night! The pond is very close to where we were kiting. Between there and the Pub just up the road. Look on a map mate! I'm totally knackered and have done far too much kiting lately, but if the wind's up tomorrow I'll be there! I'd be well up for getting involved in a kiting society, but am already president of another one (SPEAK: luucu.com/speak), so won't be on the exec! Quote
kit Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Oh, hello Cat! Didn't get round to saying hello back. Wack a post up at half term and we'll be pleased to meet you! Quote
Spook Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 aparently you aren't allowed anything with more than 2 wheels on the field Does that mean I'll be fine on my Dirtsurfer?? :D Quote
lazarus Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Does that mean I'll be fine on my Dirtsurfer?? :D technicaly yes Quote
Caramboo Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Well, I'll be up there sometime from noon onwards. I'll be the guy on a borrowed Scudda39 (or whatever they are called). Quote
gregh Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 it's cold, a slight covering of snow and sunny at the moment around 2 miles from Roundhay, just watch out for frozen hard ground!! Quote
kit Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 I'll be up there, hopefully half eleven ish. See you guys around! Quote
Neil aka KC Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Hi Guys, wondering if you lot could give me some feedback on an idea i have. On Flexi forums i have noticed that in the meets section pretty much every flying location/club around has begun there own thread which is cool. The only disadvantage is you are restricted to the one THREAD, which you all have to reply in. This can give ya a headack, more so for new views having to scroll though all the pages etc.. I have thought about extending this idea, and placing in the kiteforums.net section a sub forum for any club/group such as your selfs, meaning you would have your own forum section, and can have different topic threads etc. I was also basing a usergroup around this, and also set a couple of mods, so you can maintain the forum section etc, for annoucements posts thread etc. Quote
_me_ Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Hey Had a weekend with far too much alcohol and far too little sleep so can't be a*sed quoting from everyone's posts... so i hope you get the idea! Neil - that sounds like a great idea The uni club sounds good. I'd thought bout that myself... or at least thought it'd be good if there was one! Looked at setting up club (for adventure racing) before, seems pretty easy except you have to get 100 signatures of people supporting the club(they dont have to join it!) before the union will give you funding. I'd def be interested. Who's flying where this week? Hectic tomorrow but free nearly all day Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri (or at least I can be.... i love repeated practicals!) Tom - say hi next time you see me if you know who I am!!!! Maria x Quote
DreadedTom Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Moodey server just deleted my message three times,so will try again....... We have the forms for setting up the club, just need the 100 autographs:) Apparently theres some debate as to whether it will be a club or society, as the exec think they have too many clubs already(but then they class walking as a sport,so its not surprising really...) Maybe heading to roundhay on weds if anyones playing. Either before 1 or after 2.Probably after 2 actually, not really one for early morning energy. Tom Quote
kit Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Thanks for working at the union Tom! There's so much beaurocracy attached to being a union club/soc, I sometimes think it's not worth it... Then they give us money, and recognition, and I realise that yes it is. We'd blatently be a club, but Seb's a decent guy so I try to work with him. Anyway, yes Wed sounds good to me provided the weather's OK. You call before 1 'early morning'?! Oh for being a first year again! K Quote
Mouthwash Posted January 24, 2005 Author Report Posted January 24, 2005 Hi Everyone, We're off to Redcar on Sunday if anyone fancies tagging along. Should be cold but the wind is looking onshore which will be nice. Quote
_me_ Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 What's the difference between a club and a society anyway? Obviously, music is a society, basketball is a club.... but what's the diff in terms of recognition from the union? I'd be up for kiting Wed afternoon Tom. You going there straight from uni? I'm free from 2. Quote
kit Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Chris - Redcar sounds wicked, thanks for the offer. However, I've just arranged a meeting for lunch time, so can't come Quote
_me_ Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Tom - not heard off you so assuming not flying - tbh got so so much to do anyway so roundhay aint good for me. maria x Quote
kit Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 The weather's awful today, no wind and grey skies. Grrrrr. Quote
_me_ Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 I know. Nasty. Going for run instead Quote
crazygeezer Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Will anyone be up at Roundhay at the weekend? Thinking of taking a ride up and introducing myself to a few people if the weather is any good. Jay Quote
