Swooptopin Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 Oh my God! Reminds me of my first jump..... not. Glad he survived!!!!!!! Flux, I've changed the file link, cos the one you posted doesn't appear to work anymore. This is someone having a real problem while kiting - NEVER take those jumps for granted folks!!!!! http://www.ridgers.com/Lottery_Sub_Pages/kitestuff.htm Quote
Adrena1in Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 This video has been posted in about 5 or 6 separate threads now! Quote

flurokitty Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Oh my!!!!! I think I would have let go before I got that high LOL I mean I know it happened really fast but I always let go and trust my kite killers to save me if I feel out of control. Good on him for landing alive and not taking anyone one out though. Quote
cassiewoofer Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Can someone please download that vid and send it to me as an e-mail attachment cos this computer doesn't seem to accept it or something!!!!! ta! Quote
zimmer Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 And here's me thinking a 12-15ft jump was good:eek: Quote
bdzp Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 So did he do that once and it was shown from like 5 different viewpoints or did he do it 5 times? Insane that the kite didn't lose power by the time he landed... what brought him down? Quote
flurokitty Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 if you listen to the guy tell it on the radio it sounds like they were trying to film the guy with the tophat and the other guy just got caught in a freak updraft. It was quite a busy beach so I guess a few people managed to film it. Quote
Plugus Maximus Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 There was a photo I saw years of ago on kitemares.com (dunno if it still exists) of a guy over the top of the mountian on some Hawaiian island. But this footage is frickin' breath taking! K Quote
bdzp Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 if you listen to the guy tell it on the radio it sounds like they were trying to film the guy with the tophat and the other guy just got caught in a freak updraft. It was quite a busy beach so I guess a few people managed to film it. ah hah... maybe not the best place to be kiting in that much wind? Just an idea! Quote
BulletProof Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 ah hah... maybe not the best place to be kiting in that much wind? Just an idea!i think it was a thermal updraft that caught him and took him up rather than the wind itself Quote
mr_rix23 Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 That was a several pairs of underpants jump!!!!!!!! I bet he had to think about taking that kite up again. How in the hell did he get out of that one alive, as he brings the kite into the beach it looses height so quickly he should have been worm food! Quote
bdzp Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 i think it was a thermal updraft that caught him and took him up rather than the wind itself Yeah you're right... that was way too high to be wind. A wonder that doesn't happen more often, don't you think? Unless the circumstances are just that insane! Quote
kenny_dilger Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 What is crazy is how he decided to hook in to the kite after he got up to a certain height. Probably the only thing that saved his life... Quick thinking... Quote
Steve1599968621 Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 What is crazy is how he decided to hook in to the kite after he got up to a certain height. Probably the only thing that saved his life... Quick thinking...He hooks in and out a few times - takes some strength and cool thinking. Weirdest thing is you see him go behind top hat just before he takes off. He was only jumping someones lines FFS! Scary scary. Quote
wideload Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 feck me, that is scary. Never under estimate the elements I guess. I got caught by a big gust a while back to 15-20 feet and that was bad enough, good job it was a good sized kite unlike my 4m Sam. Quote
hotnginger Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Lol this is amazing footage- I've done 15 ft jumps off a hillock where I live in perfect control- brings you to a combined height of around 20ft, however, this is just simply incomparable to that. Plus- he came down a dam bit faster than I do with my Bego 600 Quote
hotnginger Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 any more footage like this from anyone- I never seem to be able to find any great videos! Can anybody point me in the right direction. Quote

gregh Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 I can't believe that is real, I reckon it's been edited in, when he gets real high the footage looks fake to me. regards, greg Quote
Temperate Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Yeah you're right... that was way too high to be wind. A wonder that doesn't happen more often, don't you think? Unless the circumstances are just that insane! Doesn't wind increase with height....? Quote
Adrena1in Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 the footage looks fake to me.That's exactly the same thing I thought when those two passenger jets crashed into the Twin Towers. Incredible things don't look credible because they're not something you tend to see. I don't think the footage is edited. Quote
