Sparhawk Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 I want a nice clean beach the fields are all muddy and horrible here at the moment!!!! Forget Branny then mate - its a filthy place  All that mud n clay - and its a bugger to get out of once yer in it  MadAndy71 1 Quote
Plane pour moi Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Spar, can't believe it's that bad ...! there must be a bit of sand in the mix ! Come on locals defend you beach and tell me it's really good where else do you suggest then? PS: I don't really fancy Swindon Kite Fest as I like my skin where it is ... on me and not spread over 50 feet of runway! Quote
Lem Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Hmm.. the mud patch has been shifting around of recent. Nowt better than lofting a jump, only to find you're dangling over the slimy bit! Going to be there all weekend. Might rain a little on Sat, but slightly better wind. Going to be a grey and murky one nonetheless... Ooh.. and I've got a new toy to play with Quote
Sparhawk Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Spar, can't believe it's that bad ...! there must be a bit of sand in the mix ! Come on locals defend you beach and tell me it's really good where else do you suggest then? Yes mate there is a bit of sand - but one does have to watch out for flying buggies - aimed at yer head . . . . . nice bunch of peeps up there - go enjoy.... my only point was that there is probably as much mud on the beach as there is on your local field Quote
dannywooly Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Hi Sorry can't defend branny kited there through the winter and thats the best time, get more than 10 kiters and your in a traffic jam, the clay bank is a pain in the Ar*e, the national trust restrictions make you walk about 1.5miles before you can setup. I have personally put branny down as a winter only beach, Mablethrope is my new home now, 10 x the size of branny, no clay banks and the wind direction is not an issue due to its size, but get an onshore and you have a 5 mile run to a buoy and back. Its worth the extra hour in the car for me and the summer days allow you to stay longer. Hope this helps Danny Quote
Sky-Blu Posted May 7, 2004 Author Report Posted May 7, 2004 there is a mud bank in the middle, but with an onshore wind its not a problem as you run on the two smooth banks either side of it. get some speed up and you'll get through it nicely. sadly the wind isnt looking great so it wont be branny in its full glory. if you want to see sven and have a chat make sure you dont have your credit card with you i'll have my frenzy 04's with me and there will no doubt be a guerilla or something else about for you to try. flysurfers are fanstatic beasts but worth trying as many as you can so you get the right one for you Quote
Plane pour moi Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Quick question about amenities: My wife is not really into kiting (yet.. but I am working on it) and if the day is not sunny and warm I doubt she will spend it on the beach!!! Is there a nice place nearby where she could spend the day if not money ...! (hope she does not read this otherwise you will not see me this WE... ) Thanks. Quote
Sky-Blu Posted May 7, 2004 Author Report Posted May 7, 2004 there's pleanty to do in the area. hunstanton is just down the road and is well known for its seaside town attractions. there are also some great beaches, walks, pubs to crawl about. the tourist info centre in hunny will tell you all you could ever need to know Quote
Sylenz Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Will be there both days hopefully. Plane pour moi Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 Hi Guys, well the W.E. was mixed really! Reasonnably good saturday afternoon but was completely gutted by the last 30 min. A mate and I drove in your direction on Saturday and we stopped at Hunstanton (Had a chat with Sven - did not took my credit card as advised - Thanks for that ! ) Our "error" was we stoppped at old hunstanton beach - you know us inlanders as soon as we see a reasonnably large expense of sand we start dribbling, it gets messy ... ! We got down on the beach and add a good afternoon. My mate was ripping in his buggy (ate quite a lot of sand and drank a few pints of salty water in the process...) and I was doing alright on the board (well to be honnest I could have done with a couple more square meters on the firebee and did not dare to take the bego out). But the beach was not exactly board friendly - full of small water holes and undetectable soft sand spots - I did not count the number of time my front wheels dug in and I went flying above the front wheels - (My helmet saved me from a few nasty knocks ) At 5:30 we were absolutely knacked and decided to pack. Before driving back we thought we would have a look at the other beaches around for future trips - We drove up to Brancaster and walked through the dune to discover the 5 mile hard packed snooker table :eek: We had a chat with two guys who were packing up (G15, 13 and big blade). They explained us the unfortunate limitations but it still looked like a great spot! There was still quite a few kites in the distance but we were too tired to walk all the way to the flying site! So all in all a reasonnably good saturday ... just a bit annoyed to have missed on an even better one ! Next time we will not make the same mistake. Quote
