Guest Nevermind Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Hi in my dt lesson i am making a box 800mm(length) 450mm(width) 400(height). It is going to cost around 35 quid. This is a design of it. It is allready made except for screwing everything together and looks the same as this however the back where the back axle goes is slightly different. http://homepages.tesco.net/raydeb/1.gif I will put a image of the new back axle slot later. Would you buy a box like this For 40 pound or would you say that this is to much to pay? It is made out of 9mm,12mm plywood. Any view apprechiated Craig Quote

Our coursework had to be around Storage Items. So i decided to make a box to hold my buggy on and store tools, spares, wetsuit, helmet, kneepads etc. Also it will hold a buggy on top so youcan check ure buggy out. The reaon i have made it is that i want a box to store all my kite stuff in so i just designed it around my buugy so it would act as 2 items Box and Workstand. Craig Quote

Your design does what it is supposed to do, it's just that it doesn't do anything I've always wanted to be able to do and haven't been able to do. I worked on my old buggy in the garage and always tried to balance it on end when working on the wheels and it wasnt easy. It would, however, be far easier to have made one out of say tubular metal framing which would be lighter weight and less cumbersome (but i guess you had to use wood as a rule yeah). It would also be easier to make it collapsable to transport it maybe if it were made from tubes. Right idea but design needs a little work IMHO. But hey, thats what designing is all about, if the first design always worked, it would be a miracle. Cheers Tim Quote

If it was lockable, then you could put all your kites insite, and then buggy on top. The lot fixes into a trailer, so secrity & function. my 10p worth. Quote

Craig, you are right that there are more expensive options around. If your design course includes marketing, then you will need to show that you have thought about who buys the stuff you have designed, what they bought before your product became available, and why they will buy your design instead. Is it cheaper, is it better, is it trendier, etc. What problem are you trying to solve with your design? I use an old sports bag, that fits in the buggy seat as I pull it to the beach. Stuff doesn't fall out, and I don't have a problem without axle stands. Your design will have to offer me something I need, as well as being cheaper than than the alternative. Cheers, and keep designing stuff. It's more fun than just buying it. Ben Quote
