Airborne1599968603 Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Having had a lot of rain recently and mainly kiting on grass, my kites are a little on the grubby side. I know I've read that people put their kites in a pillow case and then in the washing machine, but is this for real? I assume you need it on the coolest setting possible (30 degrees on my machine), do you use the regular washing powder? Anything else I should be aware of? Quote
Rab Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Sounds a bit dodgy to me m8 but I think id personally tie the kite on the washing line and use a bit of good old elbow grease. That way ya wont ****e youself when u pull the kite out the pillowcase and what was once a 4m blade is now a 1m blade :-)) Rab Quote
Airborne1599968603 Posted December 14, 2003 Author Report Posted December 14, 2003 I think you're probably right Rab -most of the stuff that goes in there seems to come out pink as someones stuffed a red sock in there or something. Now that wouldn't be cool... Quote
flydad Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 best just to stick it in the bath with some gentle soap and give it a good scrub by hand, then rinse it out and hang up to dry, that way you don't have to worry about the bridles escaping from the pillow case! Quote
Rab Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Airborne, Talking bout pink kites, i know someone who has one :-)) Ill not mention his name, but ill stick a pic up instead. Ill probably get my ass well kicked, but ill do it anyways :-) He says its not pink :-) Make up ure own mind Cheers Rab http://caramboo.com/gallery/albums/userpics/mykites/normal_busterbuggy.jpg Quote
flydad Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Yea thats a luverly magentasisedpink that! There's one on the West coast too. Quote
deejaygee Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 It works and works well, no damage or shrinking etc just an as new crispy kite........... Quote
RedHotChili1599968600 Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 yup we got a pink kite down here on the East coast, my mate Tony has a 6.5M Air Traction that is a loverly shade of pink, with a white underbelly! Quote
kite atb dude Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 ive put kites in a pillow case and in the wash but i used washing up liquid insted worked a treat , looks brand new Quote
Airborne1599968603 Posted December 15, 2003 Author Report Posted December 15, 2003 Still not sure if I've got the bottle... Quote
the_lone_wolf Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 did it today with the 4.9 - normal 30 degree wash for delicates, normal powder, basically similar results as with a hose but warmer, easier and smells nice too:D Quote
Airborne1599968603 Posted December 15, 2003 Author Report Posted December 15, 2003 OK - I think I'll give it a go. If you can't trust a Wolf then who can you trust? If it doesn't work out, there may be a Blade II 2M going cheap...just need to check for those red socks... Quote
the_lone_wolf Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 make sure you have it on a good spin or it'll be soaking when i comes out and find somewhere to dry it BEFORE you wash it, unlike me running round the house with a wet kite in one hand -and label the lines when you take them off so you don't have to unwind them to get them back on:) Quote
Airborne1599968603 Posted December 15, 2003 Author Report Posted December 15, 2003 Good advice - I would probably forgotten to label the lines. As for running around the house with a dripping wet kite (LOL) 'She who must be obeyed' would have all my clothes in a bin bag on the front lawn and the locks changed in under 15 seconds... Appreciate the tips - you probably just saved my life... Quote
Caramboo Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 OI Rab That's my "It's not pink" Kite you cheeky monkey Quote
Airborne1599968603 Posted December 15, 2003 Author Report Posted December 15, 2003 I have to say it does have a slightly pink tinge to it... Quote
Caramboo Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 When I bought it, I rang the shop first to see if they had any 5.5 Busters. Me: "What colour is it" Shop: "Magenta" Me: "What's magenta then" Shop: " Purplyish" Me: "Cool" The big shock came later when I got there Quote
Rab Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 It was only a matter o time before ya seen that caramboo. I cant hide anything anywhere :-) Cheers Rab Quote
Airborne1599968603 Posted December 15, 2003 Author Report Posted December 15, 2003 I think you'd have a case under the trade descriptions act. Perhaps pink will be the new black sometime soon. ...then again, perhaps it won't... Quote
freez Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 washin in a pillow case works a treat, just make sure pillow case is seculely knotted to stop kite coming out in the wash, no softener needed Quote
Sparhawk Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Just done it, worked a treat. Only thing was - I wish I had paid more attention to the Bridle (right hand ones got in a right mess) I believe Mr. Agger advocates the use of an elastic band or two to strap them up to prevent tangles - Have to remeber that next time. Mmmmmm Nice n new looking - almost crispy Quote
Sky-Blu Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 i clean all my gear in the washing machine. bit of enviro freindly soap (the stuff that doesnt work too well but does the job) and pack the kite loosely into a mesh bag so all the sand can fall out. in for a silk wash and a gentle spin. tip the excess water off then hang up to dry for a day or two. nice bight shiny kite, but just try it with a 12m frenzy, feck, the 7.3 was a handful, the 12m just doesnt fit inside the house, summer job there methinks Quote
Helen Mac. Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Sorry to come back to this but I`ve got a 5.5m Buster, and mine`s yellow, not pink.....errr...magenta!!!! As far as kite washing goes, I`ve found that Rab`s washing line method works well, especially if the kite has sand on it. Quote
