Having had a lot of rain recently and mainly kiting on grass, my kites are a little on the grubby side.

I know I've read that people put their kites in a pillow case and then in the washing machine, but is this for real?

I assume you need it on the coolest setting possible (30 degrees on my machine), do you use the regular washing powder?

Anything else I should be aware of?

Sounds a bit dodgy to me m8 but I think id personally tie the kite on the washing line and use a bit of good old elbow grease.

That way ya wont ****e youself when u pull the kite out the pillowcase and what was once a 4m blade is now a 1m blade :-))

best just to stick it in the bath with some gentle soap and give it a good scrub by hand, then rinse it out and hang up to dry, that way you don't have to worry about the bridles escaping from the pillow case!

make sure you have it on a good spin or it'll be soaking when i comes out and find somewhere to dry it BEFORE you wash it, unlike me running round the house with a wet kite in one hand -and label the lines when you take them off so you don't have to unwind them to get them back on:)

Good advice - I would probably forgotten to label the lines. As for running around the house with a dripping wet kite (LOL) 'She who must be obeyed' would have all my clothes in a bin bag on the front lawn and the locks changed in under 15 seconds...

Appreciate the tips - you probably just saved my life...

When I bought it, I rang the shop first to see if they had any 5.5 Busters.

Me: "What colour is it"

Shop: "Magenta"

Me: "What's magenta then"

Shop: " Purplyish"

Me: "Cool"

The big shock came later when I got there :)

Just done it, worked a treat. Only thing was - I wish I had paid more attention to the Bridle (right hand ones got in a right mess)

I believe Mr. Agger advocates the use of an elastic band or two to strap them up to prevent tangles - Have to remeber that next time.

Mmmmmm Nice n new looking - almost crispy :D

i clean all my gear in the washing machine. bit of enviro freindly soap (the stuff that doesnt work too well but does the job) and pack the kite loosely into a mesh bag so all the sand can fall out. in for a silk wash and a gentle spin. tip the excess water off then hang up to dry for a day or two. nice bight shiny kite, but just try it with a 12m frenzy, feck, the 7.3 was a handful, the 12m just doesnt fit inside the house, summer job there methinks

Sorry to come back to this but I`ve got a 5.5m Buster, and mine`s yellow, not pink.....errr...magenta!!!!

As far as kite washing goes, I`ve found that Rab`s washing line method works well, especially if the kite has sand on it.

:D :D :D Definately use a lacky band around your bridle keeps it in one place, just for interest I have a faded yellow Little devil 2.1 that I reckon I have washed at least 15 times and it is still one of my favourite kites, mind you it is Ozone quality.
