Poseidon Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 An interesting story! North Devon Great White Sighting Chainmail wetsuits are order of the day at Saunton! Quote
Adrena1in Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 Great! I was in the sea at the weekend, floating on my back and thinking how I was prime dining for a shark. Saunton is where some friends and I were planning to go camping and surfing, (and me introducing them to kiting), some time soon as well. Perhaps I'll just static fly my kites on the beach. Quote

Joelio Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 six billion people on planet earth and counting.... 4 people killed by sharks each year. do the maths and ......................you have a one in 1.5 billion chance of being killed by a shark! Quote
HD462 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Not quite true! People who never swim in the sea will never be attacked by a shark. You need to compare the amount of people who swim in shark infested waters, to the amount of people who are attacked to get a true ratio. Quote
Ted Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 good point, but hundreds of millions do. more than 100 people are killed by falling cocunuts each year ... watch the skies! Quote
flyingdutchman Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 i live in cape town where there are great white breading areas just a coupla 100m off the coast. roughly 40-70 people kitesurf regulary spending about 2 hours in the water at a time and 3 sessions each week........ there are about 4 shark attacks each year but there been no deaths in about 3 years or so.... i think were pretty safe in the water despite the fish with really big teath lurking everywhere around. and remember !!!! the colder the water the less often sharks need to feed !!!! so do not heat your pools Quote
Jim_bob Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 and remember !!!! the colder the water the less often sharks need to feed !!!! so do not heat your pools i.e so don't **** in the sea Quote
