But then if your gonna be that picky then buy a GPS
:D

Yes it was picky and over the top for the application. I think the lab I worked in was undergoing UKAS accreditation at the time, so it sort of came as second nature. (sad but true)

And like I said, it helped teach my son a bit of relevant maths.

As far as I remember:

The magnet bit was a smaller diameter where the screw went in, this portion also had a slot in it so it could go over a bike wheel spoke.

I think I drilled a hole at the smaller diameter so that all that bit went into the plastic of the buggy wheel (quite snug). I then put a washer over the end coming through the wheel, and put the screw in.

This meant that when the screw started to tighten and the slot started to part (steady lads, no Carry-On inuendo please) it effectively helped it lock to the wheel.

Hi Capt Slog,

Thanks for the info a diagram :-) just one question...

Does the magnet go on the rim of the wheel then? so all i do is pop the wheel off (easier said than done) drill my hole and fasten my magnet through...

Forgive the muppet questions but my DIY skills are bad, and i need to have it 100% in my head before i touch anything or it WILL end in disaster....

Thanks again for your help!

No.

I don't know what your wheels look like, but mine are like the pic below. Almost

The "raised bits" of the wheel spokes are the indents on the other side, right?

I drilled through a raised bit about halfway up the radius, then put the screw on the back of the magnet in the indent on the other side of the wheel.

I found there wasnt a lot of choice where stuff could go, it's dictated by where the sensor fits.

When you've had a look at the pic, let me know and I'll delete it, I don't want to fall foul of any copyright.

I know this thread is a couple of days old now, but one question.... I have fitted a cordless speedo (halfords 6 programme one) to my scrub board, I have taken someone elses advice and fitted the magnet to the dust cap and the receiver to the truck. I measured the distance of one wheel turn and programmed the mm in, ....... if the magnet is on the dust cap will I get an accurate speed?

speaky:confused:
