eifion Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 Been flying power kites for a few months now and like the look of kite boarding. Are they worth the extra money getting one of those funny shaped boards from flexi? Or am I better off with a Kheo Air-s and keeping the extra £30? Quote
matt21 Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 if you purely want a kite board then there supposed to be quite good, if your interested in skating and riding it on it's own go for a more traditional board. Personally I would never have a flexi board because of the heel side biasing, although i'm maybe being a bit hasty as i've not had the opportunity to try one. Matt Quote
burgy Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 I'm not a big fan either. I've used the air deck a fair bit & I dont think the asymetric deck gives any advantage & it most definately stops you from riding one down hill. Its to heavy & high off he ground but it does look kinda interesting & its well built. Try before you buy if you can. burgy Quote
eifion Posted July 4, 2003 Author Report Posted July 4, 2003 Hmm, I thought as much. What'd be the best way to go about learning - considering I've no experience at all of riding any sort of board. I can ski and ice-skate but guess it's a totally different feeling right? Quote
matt21 Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 you'll soon pick it up as you'll have some natural sense of balance from skiing and ice skating, there not difficult to ride on flat or slightly sloping ground. Matt Quote

Matt hey you can try my one at MW. . . . once you tried it you shouldnt go back lol!, mm.. the new airs is cool though (as mentioned in disco funk boarding thread) Quote
drunkmonkey Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 The new air's is aimed at free style kite ATB, super lite with wheel's that look like they will grip really well on hard sand. I whant one. Quote
bushflyer Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 tried the flexi decks at the kite festival on a 9m blade. the worries i had about toeside were not an issue at all. they are heavy though. one interesting point (thanks to brendan) is that the assemytric cut means the board balances perfectly in your hand when you grip the edge, very useful for foot offs:cool: Quote
srod Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Is the Airdeck too heavy??? Flexifoil claim it's 6.7kg, which seems as light or lighter than most other boards out there - what is the lightest board? Quote
srod Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 powerkiteshop website states total boards weights of 6.7kg for both the Air - S and the Airdeck. Everything else is around 8 to 10 with the exception of a few heavyweights. also how do the boards compare lengthwise? Air - S is given as overall length whereas Flexi quote the wheelbase. Quote
d_mason Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 what a load off crap i have both the air s and flexi air deck and i think the flexi is far much better it is lighter and is genually a good board Quote
burgy Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Chill out fool, Its an opinion thats all. however my Air-S(pre Glass) is definately lighter than Chris's Airdeck. Prolly less than a kg & I doubt it makes that much difference. Quote
d_mason Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 just saying i have both and think the air deck is good 4 all round boarding but my air s is great 4 down hill both are good boards. Quote
spooky Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Hi, Point of note, the Airdeck is very high and very short which means it will not handle speed very well. Ok I know it is for freestyle, but you need to get some speed so as to load up the power for jumps If you are not sure what to get, go for a normal style ATB asyou will not go worng, as they work just fine for kiting with and you can still messs about on a hill when there is no wind, the only reall choice is do you want Channel Trucks or SK8 ones? Have fun, Jon Quote
Joelio Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 I have a flexdeck. It kicks a$$. Need i say more? OK, so you can't use it without a kite very well, if at all, but it does what it is made for perfectly. I have never ridden an ATB before, only blades (inline skates, not the damned kite;) ), and i found that i could stand on it as soon as i stepped on it. After about 15-20 minutes of use, i could go in a straight line and turn a little as well. However, the last 5 minutes of those 20 were the most crucial, i got on it and went like a bullet (must of been going pretty quick i guess), as they were when i mastered the art of the straight line lol. The first 15 i kept falling off because there was no wind on the days when i used it. Basically, if you have a semi-decent sense of balance, you'll be able to get going in a straight line in minutes with the right wind and kite (with a flexdeck). Haven't been on it since, but i can't wait til i get the chance Flexdeck rules:) Quote
d_mason Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 ihave a air deck and i havent yet had problems with not getting enough speed yet but have been flying with a blade 2 6.4 do u think i will have problems with it ? Quote
darrengray Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 I have a flexdeck. It kicks a$$. Need i say more? i read there is a flexdeck that is not a flexifoil deck witch are you talking about Quote
Joelio Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 nope - that's the FLEXIDECK by dirtsurfer. Notice the subtle "I" in the middle of the name;) - it's therefore flexi not flex (deck). Get what i mean? Quote
aceg3905 Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 well I have the AIR-s and I loved this board, until I went to wallop. I was playing with a Flexdeck and I loved it, the speed wobble went I was able to push myself further. I so want one but the man from the bank he say no ( the Air-s I found was a good board to start with and now I got some confidence up with the flexdeck, I was able to pop some sweet airs etc... Still love the feeling of the flexdeck and the fact that there was no speed wobble. Quote
eifion Posted July 8, 2003 Author Report Posted July 8, 2003 How fast did you have to go on the Air-S to get speed wobble? like jogging or walking pace or is it OK up to Lynford Christie speed? Quote
darrengray Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 dont get smart muppet nope - that's the FLEXIDECK by dirtsurfer. Notice the subtle "I" in the middle of the name - it's therefore flexi not flex (deck). this is a copy and paste from your other post I have a flexdeck. It kicks a$$. Need i say more? HHHHMMMMM cant see the how did you put it subtle "I" you apparently put in CHECK WHAT YOUVE TYPED B4 GETTING NARKY THATS WHY I ASKED COZ YOU WERNT CLEAR 1ST TIME Quote
Joelio Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 woah i didn't mean to upset you or anything or seem smart:(! I was just pointing out that the flexideck was made by dirtsurfer, and that the flexdeck is by flexifoil and that the flexideck by dirtsurfer may have been the board you were thinking of! Didn't mean to offend you mate:) Quote
MadGuernseyBoy Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 as busfflier said earlyier i tried one as well at the festival. i liked tem so much i am hooked when i get the cash i am SO getting an air deck. also because of there lenght if you are into doing tricks the lack of lenght increases your turning speed when you are doing 360s. when i get one i am also going to have to try booard offs. but until then i am giving boarding a rest due to injury.
