Benji11 Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 I was just reading the review of the Blade III on the ATB web site and it said that the new Blade III 4.9 has the same power as the old 6.4 Blade II. I am thinking of buying either a 6.6 or 4.9m blade III to compliment my Blade II 4m. Has anyone flown both the old 6.4 and the new 4.9 and 6.6 and can compare the power produced? Ben Quote
bigrob Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 I never flew the 6.4 Blade 2. I did fly the 7.8 though. The 4.9 has great lift for a 16st lardy like me. Can be flown in quite strong winds (also flies in VERY little wind). The 6.6 is feckin powerfull. It is NOT to be messed around with. Really get used to it in light winds. It is plenty quick enough to turn and I would say has as much lift as the 7.8. The power does not snap on the Blade 3s. It just keeps coming and coming (yeah baby), and sometimes just pulls the handles from your hands, so make sure you wear the kite killers if the wind is fairly strong. All my own opinions, so have a look around and see what other guys say. Quote
peteb303 Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 When i bought my kite a few weeks ago i was going to go for a 4.0M Blade III. My original plan was to get a 4.0M blade II. I was told that the blade III gives a 1/3rd more power. I bought a 3.0M instead. I sure i made the right choice. Freinds who have blade II's are suprised on the amount of pull given by a smaller blade III. 1/3rd more power is probably about right. Quote
scottjohnston Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 i recently got my 4.9 b3 i have also flown a mates 4 b3 there i a big diff in the power between those two but whichever blade you choose will still pull like a freight train!!!!! Quote
mick Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 I dont know that the new Blades are 1/3 more powerful. The ones I've flown the B3 seem smoother with more lift. The 4.9 is not as powerful as the 6.6 but it is quicker thro the air. In lighter winds the bigger kite has to come out on top. I recently was flying a B3 3mtre and was surprised how nice it was but it was only still a 3 mtre and my 6mtre ld left it for dead. Try em all but dont discount the older kites as not very powerful. If you want the power, go BIG. Quote
kitepow Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I have had a BIII now 2 days, and it is amazing. I have only flown it in light winds but the power and lift is great. I still need to tighten my jumping skills, a few close calls!! Any tips?? Quote
