dan.white Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Well, it has finally arrived! Having sold my Super 10 on eBay last week, I have been kiteless for several rather nice days, and have just got hold of my Blade III 4.9 - left the office at lunchtime to fly it - sweet! Wind was between 5-10, but enough to get some long scuds in my smooth-soled office shoes (!) and a few little hops. It appears to be well thought out and well made. The handles are a pleasure to use in comparison to the Blade II handles - much softer, lighter and easier to use over a longer period. Here's looking forward to some 15-20mph wind! Thanks Flexi! Dan Quote
Chris-Aer Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 No, I have no current need for a new kite, next stop will be an ATB, perhaps one of the new flexi ones. Quote

Bob Monkhouse Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Same here dude. 20mph and you'll get your ass kicked. 17mph for me (16 stone) with Blade ll 4.9 and I'm doing 6ft jumps hardly trying. Take care bud. Bob. Quote
boode Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Still waiting for my 4.9 after ordering it eleven weeks ago - though it sounds like it will be worth the wait Quote
Guest NEWBOY Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I`ve flown 2 Blade III production model`s so far.. 3 & 4m.. Not bad..neither were flown in the wind range I`d use them in, and both on handles, so not a fare test...but 1st flight`s were encouraging..... The bridle on the 4m was odd though.. 1 side was different to the other..very odd..some knot`s & bridle junction`s in different places.. Kite flew ok though...If it was my kite, I wouldn`t be happy.. yos23 Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I also tried my blade III 4.9 today. It must have been blowing 12 Knots and I nearly killed myself (11 Stone). So much so, I had it up 4 sale about a half hour after I got home, coz it scared me. On the better advice of the forum, I withdrew the sale, and will have another crack when in 5-10 Knots. Quote
piperbob Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Got me new one on friday and was flying it at St Andrews on Saturday. After setting it up on friday in the local park it was straight out the bag on saturday - in approx 10mph wind. Tried it for skudding, buggying, Boarding & jumping - Had a smile from ear to ear after 10 minutes. Oh what a kite !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fast on the turn and more power than the old blade II Piperbob Kite Bag:- Blade III - 4.9 Bullet - 2.5, 3.5 Century 4.5 Advance Quattro Little Devil 1.5 Flexi Buggy Kheo Board Quote
dan.white Posted June 4, 2003 Author Report Posted June 4, 2003 Hey all, Thanks for your warnings - I will definitely take it easy - last night after my first post took it out in 10mph, and that was fun. 12-13 is my next step, so I certainly won't just go out and try to kill myself (no fun, and I have NO intention of breaking various bones in my legs as some people on these forums seem to be constantly doing :-)!!!) As for the bridle lengths being different, mine appear to be identical, and I suggest that it was just down to being pre-release models that you'd flown. It flies well, turns faster than the B2 4.9, is more efficient, and comes with a better control package. Take care, Dan Quote
Knoxville Jnr Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Picked up my Blade III 4.0 yesterday and itching to get out with it!. Trouble is i needing some light winds cos its the first 4 line kite ive flown. theres no wind down here this morning, but its pouring with rain! Grrrrrr! Quote
dan.white Posted June 4, 2003 Author Report Posted June 4, 2003 Pourin' with rain here too man. Gutting! Enjoy the kite though - they're sweet! Dan Quote
Knoxville Jnr Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 even if it stops now think the ground is gonna be soaked and would hate to get mud and grass stains on it first time out! Quote
ssxair sandman Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 stopped raini here, 8mph wind, so i'm off out wiv the b3 4.9 , bty ...dan i'm only down the road from u m8, fancy flyin sometime???? Quote
goFlyaKite Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Fancied the six metre blade Bought an aeria raptor 5.5 instead GAWD, the raptor is amazin, is faster than my Blade 2 4M They messed up on the release of the blades, that letter to the dealers and frustrated flyers ...... you keep calling us asking us for release date, please dont..... (paraphrased) guess that flexifoil is once again suffering the transition from "cool idea" to strategic marketing. Unfortunately strategic marketing got nothing to do with with cool colours and "out soons" I wanted, i couldnt get and didnt want to wait If ff want my money, they gotta try harder Quote
bigrob Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 What are the Raptors like for lift (ie jumping) compared to the Blades? Quote
dan.white Posted June 5, 2003 Author Report Posted June 5, 2003 Hey ssxair sandman, where r u in Sussex? I'm in Horsham and fly in the Park mostly, but this evening am going down to Lancing or Wittering. PM me if u like. Not having any experience of the Raptor, I couldn't say whether you should have waited for the 6.6 or not, but either way, enjoy the Raptor! Quote
Lead Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Paid for my Blade III 4.0m today. Hopefully get it tomorrow, maybe the day after. Mixture of excitement and sheer panic. Quote
ssxair sandman Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 dan...pm'd you when are you available to fly m8, currently on career break, so have a bit of time on hands Quote
bigrob Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 My 3 and 4.9 arrived yesterday and also my mates 4.0. So am itching to fly but can't til about 8pm tonight after taking the kids to karate. There is sod all wind at the moment. So let's hope it picks up a wee bit. Mate's also waiting on his 6.6. I don't think he is sleeping too well at the moment - ha ha Quote

bigrob Posted June 11, 2003 Report Posted June 11, 2003 I posted at 7.07am yesterday. By the time I got there at about 6:30 it was howling and too mcu for the 3.0M Blade. Gave up after about 1.01 secs of flying as that's how long it took to get rippedouta my hands. Wouldn't have tried if it wasn't for the kite killers mind. Going up again tonight bout 8:30. Looking OK at the moment. Want to get some good pics as well. Quote
nytrox Posted June 11, 2003 Report Posted June 11, 2003 The bridle on the 4m was odd though.. i read on the flexi site that the blade III's delay was mainly due to the original bridles stretching and that they had to source another type of bridle for the larger sizes i really hope the wait for the 6.6m i have on order is worth it! Quote
Guest NEWBOY Posted June 11, 2003 Report Posted June 11, 2003 Got my 6.6 today.....oh my god....how nice!!!!! Mate got an 8.5 today....oh my god...how nice!!!!! Well done Flexi.. Quote
Groz Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 Saw you got a 6.6 Bladerunner. i'm young (14) but want a long lasting kite. i weigh 10 stone and have some experience of a mates 6.4. would a 6.6 be too much? cheers groz Quote
dan.white Posted June 13, 2003 Author Report Posted June 13, 2003 Almost certainly. A mate who has been flying kites for years flew my Blade III 4.9 the other night in 10-15mph winds and got shredded (dunno why he didn't let go of the handles!). He weighs 10 stone. Unless you're majorly confident with your friend's 6.4, go for a 4m. Quote
